What was the number one song in the UK on 28th July 1966?
British singer, Chris Farlowe was number one for 1 week with Out of Time.
Originally a Rolling Stones song, Farlowe’s version was still produced by Mick Jagger and it is rather marvellous. A tad repetitive, the song doesn’t seem to go anywhere. However, it is a song with great atmosphere and R&B singer Chris Farlowe does a fantastic job of “making it his own’ (God- The X Factor really killed off that phrase for us all, didn’t it?) while still giving us a hint of the Stones in the production.
Lyrics
You don’t know what’s going on
You’ve been away for far too long
You can’t come back and think you are still mine
You’re out of touch my baby
My poor old fashioned baby
I said baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
Well, baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
I said baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
Yes you are left out, yes, you are
I said you’re left out of there without a doubt
‘Cause baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
You thought you was a clever girl (clever girl)
Giving up your social whirl (social whirl)
You can’t come back and be the first in line, oh yeah
You’re obsolete, my baby
My poor, unfaithful baby
I said baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
I said baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
Yes, you are, you’re left out, yes, you are
I said you’re left out of there without a doubt
‘Cause baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
I said baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
Yes you are, you’re left out, yes, you are
I said you’re left out, out of there without a doubt
‘Cause baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
(Is everybody ready)
Baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time
You thought you was a clever girl
(Baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time)
You’re livin’ in that social whirl
(Baby, baby, baby, you’re out of time)
Yes you are right now
