How soon can you drop off the UK top 40 with a No.1 single?
The answer to that is THREE weeks! And four acts have done it:
Blur in 1997 with “Bettlebum” – entered the chart at No.1, fell to No.7 the next week, then down to No.29 before leaving.
Elvis Presley in 2005 with “It’s Now Or Never” – entered at No.1, fell to No.14 the next week before slipping to No.27 and out.
McFly in 2007 with “Baby’s Coming Back” – went in at No.1 before sinking to No.20 and finally No.39 and gone forever.
Eva Cassidy and Katie Melua also in 2007 with “What A Wonderful World” – debuted at No.1, down to No.2, then No.14 , right out and gone!
