The song, “A Whiter Shade Of Pale”, was originally recorded by Procol Harum in 1967
The haunting and psychedelic “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” was the debut single of Essex band Procol Harum, released in May 1967. It was written by band members Gary Brooker, Keith Reid and Matthew Fisher and went to number one in over fifteen countries worldwide, including the UK and the US.
Many have not dared to touch this often iconic song, but in 1995, Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox recorded the song for her covers album, “Medusa”. It was released as the second single in May and became a chart hit, reaching No.16 in the UK and a No.2 on the US dance chart for some reason!
But whose is the best? PROCOL HARUM’s original or ANNIE LENNOX’s cover?
