What was the number one song in the UK on 10th April 1968?
Sir Cliff was number one for 2 weeks with Congratulations.
Congratulations was Cliff’s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1968 and it was such a strong favourite to win that the British press posed the question “What will come second to Congratulations?”. Alas, it was not meant to be as it was Cliff that came second, losing out by only un point to Spain’s Massiel and La La La (there was some controversy that the voting was rigged and Sir Cliff should have been the rightful winner on the night). It’s a fun pop song, that obviously should have won Eurovision, but you know at the end of the day it’s Cliff Richard, so you won’t find me listening to it again any time soon.
Lyrics
Congratulations
And celebrations
When I tell everyone that you’re in love
With me
Congratulations
And jubilations
I want the world to know I’m happy as can be.
And celebrations
When I tell everyone that you’re in love
With me
Congratulations
And jubilations
I want the world to know I’m happy as can be.
Who could believe that I could be happy and
Contented
I used to think that happiness hadn’t been
Invented
But that was in the bad old days before
I met you
When I let you
Walk into my heart
Contented
I used to think that happiness hadn’t been
Invented
But that was in the bad old days before
I met you
When I let you
Walk into my heart
Congratulations
I was afraid that maybe you thought you
Were above me
That I was only fooling myself to think you
Loved me
But then tonight you said you couldn’t live
Without me
That round about me
You wanted to stay
Were above me
That I was only fooling myself to think you
Loved me
But then tonight you said you couldn’t live
Without me
That round about me
You wanted to stay
Congratulations
Congratulations
And jubilations
I want the world to know I’m happy as can be
I want the world to know
I’m happy as can be
Congratulations
And jubilations
I want the world to know I’m happy as can be
I want the world to know
I’m happy as can be
