EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘My Sweet Lord’ – George Harrison

What was the number one song in the UK on 30th January 1971?

Former Beatle, George Harrison got to number one with My Sweet Lord for 5 weeks.

I promised you that you’d hear from The Beatles again, even if it isn’t quite in the same way. Here’s the first solo-Beatles number one and it’s our George. It’s a song in praise of the Hindu god Krishna, but it also hints at the suggestion of abandoning religious sectarianism. In 1976, Harrison was involved with a copyright infringement suit. Its similarities with The Chiffons’ 1963 hit- He’s So Fine is undeniable. If you get a chance to listen to it, do so. My Sweet Lord is almost a carbon copy, but with different lyrics. However, despite this, it is a lovely song that beams warmth and it went on to be the best selling single of 1971.
