The Islas release “Last Time Forever”
It’s not often an artist or band from my own home town pop up and really deserve a mention, but here are Norwich group, The Islas! The band formed in 2016 and released their debut EP, “A Generation To Forget”, in 2019. Today they release their beautiful new song, “Last Time Forever”, which is so soft and loveable, you just want to play it again and again! Go on…!
The song is the follow up to their other tune of this year, the alt-rock anthem, “Close” and was written in the restrictive confines of lockdown 2020. Vocalist Nathan explains: “I was in a pretty dark place I won’t lie. I was struggling a lot with the lockdown at first, I packed away my games consoles, wouldn’t touch my books or my Mac. I spent some of my time going to the Norfolk coast and just sitting in my car or walking along the beaches. It was in these moments that I carved out the lyrics. It’s a really emotional song, and in a way a love-sick song but it’s like I’m talking to myself really. ‘Lost my hopeful thoughts somewhere in between, deep sleep and a funny dream’ came from the fact that I thought I just woke up and everything changed one day. I’d lost all my positivity, and I am definitely a positive person! Ross had this excellent riff which I started singing along to and as soon as I sent over a draft to him, we both really loved what we’d created”.
Make sure you check out the ‘B side’ to “Close”, the dreamy “Dancing With Daisy”, a perfect accompaniment to “Last Time Forever”. Lets hope 2021 is a more settled year for the band and their creative juices continue to flow and bring us more superb songs as they have already delivered. Keep an eye out for this quartet, I have a feeling these boys are going places!
The Islas are Nathan Baverstock (lead vocals and guitar), Ross Allen (lead guitar), Granger Wittering (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Ed Chalu (drums).
