The song, “Together In Electric Dreams”, was originally recorded by Phil Oakey in 1984
“Together In Electric Dreams” was a song written for the film ‘Electric Dreams’ by Phil Oakey of The Human League and producer Giorgio Moroder. The song was recorded by Oakey away from ‘The League’ as a side project and released in September 1984, two months after the film had been on release. It peaked at No.3 in the UK and No.5 in Australia as well as a top twenty position on the US dance chart.
In 2020, a group of musicians and singers known as Shine A Light To Fight, recorded a new version of the song in the wake of the global Corona virus pandemic the all proceeds from the single going to bereaved families of those lost from the virus. The song was released the week before Christmas along with an accompanying video and has charted top thirty on the UK singles chart.
But which version is the best? OAKEY and MORODER’s original or SHINE A LIGHT’s charity version?
