The song, “Stay”, was originally recorded by Glenn Jones in 1990
R&B/Pop song “Stay” was written by Mark Stevens and Bobby Khozouri and recorded by American singer Glenn Jones (b.1962) for his 1990 album, “All For You”. “Stay” was released as the lead single in April that same year and peaked at No.6 on the US R&B Chart, Jones’ third top ten hit, although it failed to make the Billboard single sales chart.
“Stay” was recorded by a brand new British female quartet called Eternal – Easther Bennett, Vernie Bennett, Louise Nurding and Kellie Bryan – and released as their debut single in September 1993. Their version became a global hit, making No.4 in their home country, the first of twelve top ten hits, and No.19 on the US singles chart as well as being a huge success across Europe and peaking at No.3 in Australia.
But which version is the best? GLENN JONES’ original or ETERNAL’s cover?
