WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Naomi Campbell

Naomi Campbell maybe best known for ruling the catwalk, but did you know she recorded songs as well?

Before gliding up and down the catwalks of the world, Supermodel Naomi Campbell, born in London in 1970, made her first steps in the music industry appearing in a Bob Marley video in 1978! She renewed her relationship with music in the 1980’s as a dancer in Culture Club’s “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya”. Naomi pursuded her modelling career in the late 80’s but never forgot her love of music and in 1991, guested on Vanilla Ice‘s song “Cool As Ice (Everybody Get Loose)”. It was not the commercial success his best known tune is and was only a minor hit Stateside. At the height of her career in the mid 90’s Naomi launched her own solo career as a pop star with the song “Love and Tears”, which was filled with Eastern twangs and sounds.

“Love and Tears” was not perhaps the success that everyone had hoped and it only scraped into the UK top 40 at No.40 before disappearing. Naomi worked with Bomb The Bass’ Tim Simenon, Youth (Bananarama, Zoe) and Bruce Roberts on her debut album that was released a month later in October 1994, but it flopped big time and after a follow up single, “I Want To Live”, also failed the chart, Naomi went back to what she knew best. She did, however, pop up two years later on Japanese artist Toshinobu Kubota’s 1996 single “La La La Love Song”, which amazingly was a number one in his home country, selling over two million copies! That was the last of Naomi in the recording studio. She continues to model as well as popping up in the media for numerous arrests or spitting on people. Nice.
