COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Let’s All Chant’

The song, “Let’s All Chant”, was originally recorded by the Michael Zager Band in 1977

Uplifting Disco classic “Let’s All Chant” was co-written by Alvin Fields and Michael Zager (b.1943), who produced and performed the track with his group, The Michael Zager Band. It was his second single released in December 1977 and was also the second single to come from his debut album of the same name. “Let’s All Chant” topped the American singles chart and reached No.8 in the UK, becoming Michael’s biggest and best known recording.

A number of covers exist of the song, but the best known came from British DJ’s Pat Sharpe and Mick Brown in April 1988. They recorded the song to raise money for the Help A London Child charity. It was produced by Stock Aitken Waterman and got as far as No.11 in the UK charts. American DJ ‘Gusto’ took his version to No.21 in the UK in 1996 and the top twenty across Europe. It was best received in The Netherlands, where it was a top ten hit.

But which version is the best? MICHAEL ZAGER’s original or PAT & MICK’s cover?
