UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 13th June 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 7th to Saturday 12th June 1993.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were twelve new entrys, seven climbers and two non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. PM Dawn featuring Boy George – “More Than Likely”
PM Dawn return for a second time this year and they’ve brought along Boy George with them for their new song and our first new entry.

39. Ugly Kid Joe – “Busy Bee”
Also coming back with a second new entry this year are Ugly Kid Joe. This new entry is the follow up to “Cats In The Cradle”.

38. Monie Love – “In A Word Or 2”
No such luck for Monie Love and her new entry from last week which drops five places seven days after she turned up.

37. Manchester United – “United (We Love You)”
It’s Manchester United who won the premiership title this year and to celebrate they’ve put it to music and get a new entry on the top 40 table!

36. Bjork – “Human Behaviour”
Former Sugarcubes singer Bjork gets a new entry on her own this time and she is about to release her debut album and this is the lead single from it.

35. Neneh Cherry – “Buddy X”
Neneh Cherry released her debut album back in 1989 and the follow up to it came out last Autumn. This is another track from it and it follows “Money Love”, which went top thirty.

34. The Jungle Book – “The Jungle Book Groove”
“The Jungle Book Groove” survives a seventh week in the trees but comes almost down to ground level with a fall of eleven places.

33. Kingmaker – “Queen Jane”
Kingmaker make a hasty return to the chart only a couple of weeks after “10 Years Asleep” came and went, making this their fifth top 40 chart entry!

32. Brian May and Cozy Powell – “Resurrection”
Queen’s Brian May is back and this time he has drummer Cozy Powell from The Jeff Beck Group with him for his latest solo single.

31. Bon Jovi – “In These Arms”
Six weeks now for Bon Jovi and the latest single from their album “Keep The Faith”, which is down nine on this weeks chart.

30. REM – “Everybody Hurts”
While REM clock up ten weeks with their longest standing UK chart hit to date. They leave the top twenty and go down ten places.

29. Therapy – “Face The Strange” (EP)
The latest EP from Therapy blasted into the top twenty this time last week, but unlike their previous release, it drops down eleven places in week two.

28. Thunder – “Like A Satellite” (EP)
The EP’s keep coming and this time it’s the turn of American rockers Thunder to dish up some extra noise with their latest, which is a new entry.

27. Niamh Kavanagh – “In Your Eyes”
Niamh Kavanagh is the lady who won Eurovision for Ireland for a second year running this year and it was with this song, which debuts on the UK top 40 this week.

26. a-ha – “Dark Is The Night”
a-ha release their new album tomorrow, it’s called “Memorial Beach”, and this is the lead single, which goes down seven places in its third week on the chart.

25. Manic Street Preachers – “From Despair To Where”
The brand new single from the Manic Street Preachers goes up three places in their second week. Their new album is due at the end of this month.

24. Cliff Richard – “Human Work Of Art”
Also enjoying a better week two is Cliff Richard with his latest, which goes up five places. The track is the third to come from his latest album.

23. Janet Jackson – “That’s The Way Love Goes”
“Janet” is the title of Janet Jackson‘s new album, from which this is the lead single and seven weeks on she’s still top 40 but down six places.

22. George Michael, Lisa Stansfield and Queen – “Five Live” (EP)
The third EP in the top thirty is the former number one from George Michael, Lisa Stansfield and Queen, which also drops six places in its eighth week.

21. House Of Pain – “Jump Around”
And also falling six places is the re-issued single from House Of Pain from last year, which departs the UK top twenty as well.

20. The Time Frequency – “The Power Zone” (EP)
The Time Frequency go up four places this week with their latest EP and in doing so, they win their very first top twenty hit!

19. Terence Trent D’Arby and Des’ree – “Delicate”
Terence Trent D’Arby comes back to the chart with the follow up to “Do You Love Me Like You Say?” and he’s brought along British singer Des’ree, who we last saw with her debut single “Feels So High” at the beginning of 1992.

18. 2 Unlimited – “Tribal Dance”
2 Unlimited fall seven places in their seventh week with their “Tribal Dance”. The track comes from Ray and Anita’s second album called “No Limits”.

17. Sister Sledge – “Thinking Of You ’93”
It’s three out of three for Sister Sledge as the latest remix of one of their earlier hits comes into the top twenty, up eight places, which is also this week’s highest!

16. Sting – “Fields Of Gold”
While Sting gets a new entry with the follow up to “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You”, which gives him two top twenty hits in a row from his new album.

15. Tina Turner – “I Don’t Wanna Fight”
The new song from Tina Turner, written by Lulu, that lady of independence, slips just one place this week. The track comes from the soundtrack album of a new film about her life.

14. Sade – “No Ordinary Love”
It’s an even better week for Sade as they take their 1992 original up seven places and into the top twenty in 1993 to make this their most successful single since “Smooth Operator” in 1984.

13. Jamiroquai – “Blow Your Mind”
While Jamiroquai drop down just one place again, seven days after they did the same thing with the follow up to “Too Young To Die”.

12. Louchie Lou and Michie One – “Shout (It Out)”
Rappers and singers Louchie Lou and Michie One drop out of the top ten this week with their debut single, which falls four places.

11. Snap – “Do You See The Light?”
While Snap follow them with their new entry from last week, which just slips out of the top ten and down one place.

10. Lisa Stansfield – “In All The Right Places”
Also going down one place is the latest from Lisa Stansfield, a lady with two chart entries. Her love theme form the film ‘Indecent Proposal’ drops just one place.

9. Green Jelly – “Three Little Pigs”
Having joined the UK top 40 for the first time two weeks ago and non-movers last week, Green Jelly go down four places in their third.

8. Inner Circle – “Sweat (A La La La La Long)”
As do Reggae band Inner Circle with their first UK chart hit for fourteen years and their first to make the top ten here.

7. Pet Shop Boys – “Can You Forgive Her?”
Last week’s highest new entry saw the Pet Shop Boys return to the chart with brand new music, but seven days on they can’t seem to get out of seventh place and are non-movers.

6. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “Tease Me”
Overtaking Chris and Neil are chart newcomers Chaka Demus and Pliers with their first UK single release, which climbs seven places.

5. The Spin Doctors – “Two Princes”
The Spin Doctors were hoping for at least a climb to number two with their “Two Princes”, but after six weeks in, they go down two places.

4. Ace Of Base – “All That She Wants”
The former number one from Ace Of Base also goes down two places. The song comes from the Swedish group’s debut album called “Happy Nation”.

3. Haddaway – “What Is Love?”
Doing really well with his first UK chart hit is singer Haddaway. This week finds him up three places with his highest climber of last week.

2. Gabrielle – “Dreams”
Our highest new entry this week is an impressive chart debut with a debut single the comes from 23 year old British singer Gabrielle, who has dreams of making it big. Welcome and good luck Gabrielle!

1. UB40 – “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”
For this week, however, it’s UB40’s cover of Elvis’ 1961 number one that stays on top for a second week. But can they make it three in a row, or will Gabrielle, Haddaway or someone else take it from them? There’s only one way to find out…
