FRESH: ‘Freak Me Now’ – Jessie Ware and Róisín Murphy

Jessie Ware teams up with Róisín Murphy for a new take on “Freak Me Now”

Disco-Pop

Jessie Ware has joined forces with former Moloko lead singer Róisín Murphy for a new recording of “Freak Me Now” a track from her current album, “That! Feels Good!“.

The fourth single to come from the album, which was released in April and charted at No.3 in the UK, “Freak Me Now” was co-written with regular collaborator Clarence Coffee Jnr, and album producer Stuart Price.

The track was described by us at the time as a “Late 70’s Disco-Funkbusting tune. Wicked bass beat. Repetitive lyrics stick like glue” and we gave it 4 out of 5 stars! The new update sees Jessie hook up with Róisín, who has herself released a new album in 2023, “Hit Parade”, her sixth since she debuted solo with “Ruby Blue” in 2005 followed with the sensational “Overpowered” in 2007.

“Freak Me Now” and the accompanying tracks on “That! Feels Good!”, all take Jessie’s Funk/Disco sound she began with “What’s Your Pleasure?” deeper underground with a wry, bluriness of sound and judgement and “Freak Me Now” is no exception. The coming together of two great performers, both with their own sense of drama and direction on how music should be and become, is another faultless move by both involved. This is no cat fight a la “Kiss Of Life“, this new twist demonstrates solid sisterhood as they both taunt “Baby, keep heating me up, Oh, no, don’t you go cool me down”.

Jessie takes the album on tour this Autumn/Winter while Róisín takes to the road in August with dates across Europe, America and the UK into 2024. Both artists have now performed at Glastonbury with Jessie taking to the stage in 2023 and Róisín in 2022 so who knows, it could be next year that they both freak you now…?!
