UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 12th September 1993
So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 6th to Saturday 11th September 1993.
This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases. This week, thirty years ago, there were ten new entrys, two re-entry’s, four climbers and four non-movers! And it was announced like this…
40. RuPaul – “House Of Love” ‘Model’ RuPaul makes a return this week with a second UK top 40 chart entry. This is the follow up to “Supermodel” from three months ago.
39. De La Soul – “Breakadawn” While we welcome back De La Soul to the UK chart this week with something new. This is their first showing since “A Roller Skating Jam Named “Saturdays” in 1991.
38. Pauline Henry – “Too Many People” We also welcome back Pauline Henry to the chart, this time on her own and with her first solo top 40 entry. Pauline was the lead singer of The Chimes who made the top ten in 1990 with their cover of “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”.
37. Shades Of Rhythm – “The Sound Of Eden” The Shades Of Rhythm arrived again last week with this re-issue , which seven days on fails to go any further and is a non-mover.
36. Bjork – “Venus As A Boy” Bjork’s new entry from last week is moving, sadly it’s going down though, seven places lower than its entry seven days ago.
35. Def Leppard – “Two Steps Behind” Def Leppard have a new compilation album coming out of B sides and previously unreleased material and this is one of them, which puts them in the top 40 again this week.
34. Luther Vandross – “Heaven Knows” With the second single from his latest album, Luther Vandross gets a new entry this week. This is the follow up to his top thirty hit “Little Miracles”.
33. Ace Of Base – “Wheel Of Fortune” The wheel of fortune still spins away for Ace Of Base as the follow up to their debut number one drops eleven places.
32. Texas – “So Called Friend” And going down two places is the brand new single from Texas, their first of 1993. The band will release their next album in November.
31. The Stone Temple Pilots – “Plush” And down eight places go The Stone Temple Pilots with their very first UK top 40 single, which comes from their debut album, “Core”.
30. 4 Non Blondes – “What’s Up?” The 4 Non Blondes are down ten this week and out of the top twenty, where they’ve been for the past three months with their debut UK hit.
29. Tina Turner – “Disco Inferno” While Tina Turner is down fourteen places with her latest top twenty hit, which comes from the soundtrack of the film ‘What’s Love Go To Do With It?’.
28. Zhane – “Hey Mr. DJ” Zhane arrived last week with their very first UK charting single, but seven days on, it slips two places and makes no further advances.
27. Kenny Thomas – “Tripping On Your Love” Having been a non-mover for the last two weeks, the latest from Kenny Thomas falls ten places. His new album, “Wait For Me”, is out tomorrow!
26. Shara Nelson – “One Goodbye In Ten” Back to the new entries and Shara Nelson comes back quickly with the follow up to “Down That Road”. Her debut album is out in two weeks time.
25. James – “Sometimes” The new single from James debuted last week in the top twenty, but that’s all it gets and it falls seven places, seven days later.
24. Jade – “One Woman” Not one woman but three, Jade return with their third UK top 40 new entry this week, having gone top twenty with their previous two.
23. Motorhead – “Ace Of Spades” The re-issue of Motorhead’s classic 1980 singles goes up two places this week, still short of the top twenty where this peaked thirteen years ago.
22. New Order – “World (The Price Of Love)” Having been last week’s highest climbers, New Order go the other way and go down nine with the third single from their current album, “Republic”.
21. Moby – “Move” …and that’s just what Moby does in his second week, as he enjoys a climb of three places with the title track of his first EP collection.
20. Lenny Kravitz – “Heaven Help” Hooray for Lenny Kravitz! After two weeks parked outside the top twenty, his latest goes up one to finally make it!
19. Terence Trent D’Arby – “She Kissed Me” Staying top twenty but down three places is the latest from Terence Trent D’Arby, his third of this year, his best chart run since 1987.
18. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “She Don’t Let Nobody” Gone is the long charting debut from Chaka Demus and Pliers this week, but in its place comes the follow up and the hope of another big hit…
17. Aftershock – “Slave To The Vibe” Going down three are Aftershock with the remixed version of this song, which comes courtesy of Darryl James, a New York DJ.
16. Roxette – “It Must Have Been Love” There’s a big chart re-entry next for Roxette, who come back with their former top three smash from the Summer of 1990, and it’s due to the film ‘Pretty Woman’ hitting the TV screens!
15. Apache Indian – “Nuff Vibes” (EP) Apache Indian departs the top ten this week with his biggest hit so far, down six places in his sixth week on the top 40.
14. UB40 – “Higher Ground” And making no further higher ground are UB40 who falls three with the lead single from their brand new album, “Promises And Lies”.
13. Urban Cookie Collective – “The Key, The Secret” The Urban Cookie Collective have been top ten for just over two months with this hit, but are so no longer as it falls six places.
12. Kate Bush – “Rubberband Girl” We welcome Kate Bush to the top 40 with something brand new this week and a new album, her first since 1989, on the way. This is her first single since her cover of “Rocket Man” at the end of 1991.
11. Freddie Mercury – “Living On My Own” Just dropping out of the top ten this week is the former number one from Freddie Mercury, which is down five places, with eight weeks on the chart now.
10. Mariah Carey – “Dreamlover” Mariah Carey’s new album is called “Music Box” and it’s out now and this is the lead single from it, which is a non-mover just inside the top ten.
9. Nirvana – “Heart Shaped Box” Last week’s highest new entry from Nirvana falls four places. Their new album is due out in two weeks time and this is also the lead single from it.
8. 2 Unlimited – “Faces” 2 faces for 2 Unlimited as Ray and Anita pause for a second week in the same spot with their latest. This is the third single from their current album called “No Limits!”.
7. Radiohead – “Creep” There’s another big re-entry this week and it comes from British band Radiohead as their debut single from last year returns to the chart but in a much bigger way than its first outing.
6. Billy Joel – “The River Of Dreams” Eight weeks on and Billy Joel is still enjoying the flow of his river of dreams. This week finds him down two places with it.
5. SWV – “Right Here” Also down two are SWV with their biggest UK hit to date having made the top three, their remixed debut single form last year will not be number one this week.
4. Bitty Mclean – “It Keeps Raining” And down two is the other challenger for this weeks number one, Bitty Mclean, as his debut single goes the other way, now with two months on the chart.
3. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “Boom Shake The Room” It’s been a good week for DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince as their new one goes up nine places to become this week’s highest of all.
2. Pet Shop Boys – “Go West” Just above them is our highest new entry and it comes from the Pet Shop Boys as they make a spectacular return to the chart with their highest debut since “Heart” in 1988 with this cover of a Village People song from 1979.
1. Culture Beat – “Mr. Vain” But for a third week running it’s Culture Beat who claim the biggest seller of all in the UK. But can they make it a month on top, or will Chris and Neil or Jazzy and The Fresh Prince shake them off the top floor? There’s only one way to find out…
