Duran Duran are treating us to another twist in their tale, a halloween album – “Danse Macabre”! Their sixteenth studio album is also a band reunion that sees the return of Andy Taylor and Warren Cuccurullo to the group after a number of years as Duran Duran’s odyssey becomes more reverential as the decades go by.
The title track of the album serves as the lead single, a delicious slice of ‘art Pop’, more akin to something The Cure would release in the late 1980’s (“Lullaby”) that has a creepy, goolish quality about it. The track is Duran Duran’s first new material since their 2021 album “Future Past”, which went top three in the UK and top thirty in America.
40 years ago, Duran Duran bagged their first number one single with “Is There Something I Should Know?”, while 30 years ago, it was the epic “Ordinary World” that secured the band a massive comeback hit around the world. Since then the wild boys have delivered continued delights with “(Reach Up For The) Sunrise” (2004), “All You Need Is Now” (2010) and “Five Years” in 2021.
