UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 10th October 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 4th to Saturday 9th October 1993.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were ten new entrys, four climbers and five non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine – “Lenny And Terence”
Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine are back with a new entry and only a couple of weeks since their last, “Lean On Me I Won’t Fall Over”.

39. En Vogue – “Runaway Love”
En Vogue were new this time last week, but seven days on and their brand new single and title track of their new album goes down three places.

38. Billy Joel – “The River Of Dreams”
Three months and Billy Joel’s biggest UK hit for a decade is still with us, down sixteen places, as he makes way for the follow up…

37. Radiohead – “Creep”
With five weeks this time, Radiohead creep fourteen places lower than last week with the re-issue of their debut single.

36. Cypress Hill – “When The Ship Goes Down”
And when the ship goes down so do Cypress Hill as they fall fifteen this week with their highest charting single here yet.

35. Bitty Mclean – “It Keeps Raining”
Like Billy Joel, Bitty Mclean notches up three months in the top 40 with his debut single and recording of an album is on the way. This week the first track from it is down eleven places.

34. US3 – “Cantaloop”
Down nine this week are US3 after four weeks on the chart. The group from London will release their debut album next month.

33. D:Ream – “Star”
One week in the top thirty is all D:Ream get this time as their latest goes down seven places. Their debut album is called “D:Ream On Volume 1” and it’s out tomorrow!

32. X-Press 2 – “Say What”
We welcome producers X-Press 2 to the UK top 40 this week with their third single release but first to make it this far.

31. Salt’N’Pepa – “Shoop”
Falling two places is the new single from Salt’N’Pepa, which debuted last week but fails to make it any further.

30. Various Artists – “The Two Tone EP”
The EP from Two Tone Records joined the chart last week with four songs from classic early 80’s groups, but seven days on and it fails to do anything at all and is a non-mover.

29. Crowded House – “Distant Sun”
The new single from Crowded House leaves the top twenty after one week and goes down ten places. The band’s new album is called “Together Alone” and it’s out tomorrow.

28. Belinda Carlisle – “Big Scary Animal”
Belinda Carlisle also has a new album out now and this is the lead single from it, her first top twenty hit for two years but it’s down eleven places.

27. Pop Will Eat Itself – “RSVP”
Pop Will Eat Itself return with a new entry this week, and something new from them with a new album currently in post production.

26. Blur – “Sunday Sunday”
Returning to the top thirty once more are Blur with this new entry, the third single to come from their current album, “Modern Life Is Rubbish”.

25. Staxx – “Joy”
Staxx continue to earn high marks as their debut single keeps going up, if only small steps. This week it’s two places higher.

24. One Dove – “Breakdown”
Coming onto the top 40 for the very first time are Scottish band One Dove. This is their fourth single and at last they make it and with their debut album out tomorrow.

23. Go West – “Tracks Of My Tears”
Last week’s highest climber came from Go West and it put them back in the top twenty, but that was it and they go down seven places, seven days later.

22. Roxette – “It Must Have Been Love”
Keeping with the ‘Pretty Woman’ theme, Roxette‘s re-released single from that film is also down seven places and out.

21. Paul Young – “Now I Know What Made Otis Blue”
And also out, only just, is Paul Young, also down seven. He also releases a new album tomorrow and it’s called “The Crossing”.

20. Diana Ross – “Chain Reaction”
Last week Diana Ross returned this former number one to the chart ahead of her upcoming best of collection, but a week later and it’s frozen in the same spot.

19. Dina Carroll – “Don’t Be A Stranger”
It really has been a superb year for Dina Carroll with a Platinum selling debut album and five singles from it. This is number six and it’s a new recording of a track from that album that gets her a new entry.

18. Stakka Bo – “Here We Go”
Here we go down the chart! Stakka Bo was a non-mover last week with this track but that’s as far as he goes as it falls five places.

17. Prince – “Peach”
We welcome Prince back to the UK chart with something new this week. This is track comes from a new best of he has out called “The Hits/B Sides”.

16. SWV – “Right Here”
Two months on and SWV are still about with their third hit of this year although it’s down four places. The group’s debut album is called “It’s About Time”.

15. Gabrielle – “Going Nowhere”
Having dropped out of the top ten after just one week, the follow up to Gabrielle‘s number one debut falls a further four places.

14. The Lemonheads – “Into Your Arms”
The Lemonheads get their biggest debut yet here in the UK and it’s with a brand new song that puts them back in the top twenty for the second time.

13. Culture Beat – “Mr. Vain”
Former chart toppers Culture Beat leave the top ten this week, down four places with one of the year’s biggest sellers.

12. The Prodigy – “One Love”
Back for more are The Prodigy with this new entry, and the first from their next studio album, which the group are currently recording.

11. Bon Jovi – “I Believe”
The latest cut from Bon Jovi’s album “Keep The Faith” gives the band a fifth top twenty hit here and also this week’s highest climber of seven places!

10. Pet Shop Boys – “Go West”
The Pet Shop Boys continue to go west and go down, this week three places, while their new album, “Very”, is number one on the album chart!

9. Iron Maiden – “Hallowed Be Thy Name”
As is usually the case, the highest new entry this week comes from Iron Maiden as they return to the chart and the top ten for the tenth time, their first was “Run To The Hills” in 1982.

8. Frankie Goes To Hollywood – “Relax ’93”
The new remix of Frankie Goes To Hollywood‘s first single and million selling number one falls three places. The group has a best of due out next week.

7. Eternal – “Stay”
While Eternal go up three with their debut single, in week three on the chart. The girls are now joined by Dina Carroll, whom two members sang backing vocals on her debut album.

6. Haddaway – “Life”
Last week Haddaway‘s life got no better as his latest release was a non-mover and there’s no change a week on as he sticks for a third week running in the same spot.

5. M People – “Moving On Up”
Going down two places are M People with their biggest hit so far. The group’s new album is out now and it’s called “Elegant Slumming”.

4. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “She Don’t Let Nobody”
Just like Haddaway, Chaka Demus and Pliers have to make do with a non-mover for a third week running as the follow up to “Tease Me” refuses to go top three.

3. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “Boom Shake The Room”
The former number one from DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince left the top spot last week and it goes down one again a week later.

2. Meat Loaf – “I Would Do Anything For Love”
Meat Loaf made a return to the UK chart last week for the first time this decade and he’s doing well with the song climbing six places in week two.

1. Take That and Lulu – “Relight My Fire”
But for a second week running it’s last week’s highest new entry from Take That and Lulu that claims the top spot once again with their cover of Dan Hartman’s 1979 hit. Will they make it three in a row, or will Meat Loaf or someone else put their fire out? There’s only one way to find out…
