UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 7th November 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 1st to Saturday 6th November 1993.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were twelve new entrys, two re-entry’s, nine climbers and three non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. Jomanda – “Never”
American group Jomanda make their UK top 40 debut this week having released their first single back in 1988. This is the third to come from their latest and second studio album.

39. Kenny Thomas – “Piece By Piece”
The latest single from Kenny Thomas was new on the chart last week but seven days later and it falls three places.

38. Chris Rea – “Julia”
Chris Rea and Julia have been about for a month now and still top 40, although down eight places this week.

37. Take That and Lulu – “Relight My Fire”
Just six weeks for the former number one from Take That and Lulu so far as they all slide twenty one places and out of the top twenty.

36. Tina Turner – “Why Must We Wait Until Tonight?”
And dropping nineteen is the latest from Tina Turner, three weeks after she joined us with her third hit of this year.

35. David Hasselhoff – “If I Could Say Goodbye”
Did you know that Michael Knight was also a pop star? Well, Baywatch’s David Hasselhoff makes his UK top 40 debut this week with this song, having been a big star in Germany since the early 80’s!

34. Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson – “Ave Maria”
Also making their top 40 debuts are opera stars Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson with their version of this old number that dates back to the 16th century!

33. Rick Astley – “Hopelessly”
We welcome back Rick Astley to the top 40 this week. It’s been over two years since he last graced us with his presence but he’s back with a track from his third album which is out now.

32. The Levellers – “This Garden”
Levelling off are The Levellers with their latest, which went top twenty last week but rockets down twenty a week later!

31. Cyndi Lauper – “That’s What I Think”
We also welcome back Cyndi Lauper to the UK top 40 this week. This new entry is her first since “The World Is Stone” last Spring and features on her latest album called “Hat Full Of Stars”.

30. Faith No More – “Another Body Murdered”
Faith No More go down four in their second week on the UK top 40, joined by Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. for this recording from the film ‘Judgment Night’.

29. James – “Laid”
James hit back with a new entry and the follow up to “Sometimes”. This is the title track of their latest album which came out in September.

28. Phil Collins – “Both Sides Of The Story”
Phil Collins’ new album is out tomorrow and it’s called “Both Sides”. The title track meanwhile falls eighteen places.

27. Judy Cheeks – “So In Love (The Real Deal)”
There’s a new entry next for American singer Judy Cheeks, who made her debut back in 1973 and now hits the dancefloors of the clubs for this track.

26. Captain Hollywood Project – “More And More”
We have two joint highest climbers this week, both of eight places and Captain Hollywood Project are the first of them as he moves into the top thirty.

25. Guru featuring Dee C. Lee – “No Time To Play”
Keith Elam is Guru and he’s got a new entry next. His last featured The Brand New Heavies’ N’Dea Davenport and now he’s hooked up with Dee C. Lee, who was last on the chart with “See The Day” back in 1985.

24. Soul II Soul – “Wish”
All Jazzie B could have wished for this week was that his new single went up, but alas it’s a non-mover in the position that it came in this time last week.

23. M People – “Moving On Up”
M People register eight weeks on the chart with their biggest hit to date as they leave the top twenty, down eight places.

22. Wet Wet Wet – “Shed A Tear”
Going up one is the new single from Wet Wet Wet. Their new greatest hits package is called “End Of Part One” and it’s out tomorrow!

21. Eternal – “Stay”
Eternal do not stay in the top twenty this week as they just slip out and down twelve places with their debut single.

20. Bjork and David Arnold – “Play Dead”
Bjork and David Arnold get a fourth week in the top twenty with their collaboration, which is down seven places.

19. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “Boom Shake The Room”
While a former number one from DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince clocks up ten weeks on the chart but is down thirteen.

18. Paul Weller – “Weaver” (EP)
Paul Weller is back with another top twenty new entry from his current album “Wildwood” and this time it’s a collection of songs that includes “The Weaver”.

17. Aerosmith – “Cryin'”
Aerosmith return to the UK top twenty for the second time this year as their highest climber from last week goes up four places.

16. Whitney Houston – “Queen Of The Night”
Coming down two places is Whitney Houston’s new entry from last week, the fifth single from her film ‘The Bodyguard’.

15. Michael Bolton – “Said I Loved You But I Lied”
Michael Bolton is back with something new having spent the last few years dealing us cover versions and this is the first to come from a brand new album he has coming out in two weeks time.

14. The Shamen – “Comin’ On”
The Shamen‘s new entry from last week goes up four. The song is one of four that make up “The SOS” EP from the group.

13. Leftfield Lydon – “Open Up”
There’s a big new entry next from Neil Barnes and Paul Daley who go by the name of Leftfield and they’ve roped in Sex Pistols lead singer John Lydon for this track, which gives the duo their very first top 40 charting single.

12. Pauline Henry – “Feel Like Making Love”
The Chimes’ Pauline Henry is this weeks other highest climber of eight places as she gets her highest charting solo single yet.

11. Soul Asylum – “Runaway Train”
In a year that has seen a number of reissues, Soul Asylum jump on board with this track from a few months ago that returns much higher than it originally peaked.

10. The Orb – “Little Fluffy Clouds”
Speaking of which, The Orb come back and again much higher than this song originally charted back in 1990 and giving them a second top ten hit!

9. Urban Cookie Collective – “Feels Like Heaven”
Our highest new entry this week is something new at least and we welcome back the Urban Cookie Collective who were responsible for one of this Summer’s biggest hits with “The Key, The Secret”. Can they as much success with this follow up…?

8. The Time Frequency – “Real Love”
Back to the reissues and The Time Frequency go up three and into the top ten this week with the re-issue of their song from last year.

7. Mariah Carey – “Hero”
Up one is Mariah Carey with the second single from her latest album, which has also been her very first number one album in this country!

6. Goodmen – “Give It Up”
The Goodmen give it up after just one week in the top five with their re-issue from just two months ago and fall one place.

5. Cappella – “U Got 2 Let The Music”
Down two are Cappella with their highest charting single so far, which gets a third week inside the top three.

4. Culture Beat – “Got To Get It”
Last week’s highest new entry came from former chart toppers Culture Beat and they make for the top again with a climb of three places.

3. Dina Carroll – “Don’t Be A Stranger”
Having spent two weeks in the same position, Dina Carroll is on the move again and she’s up one to a new personal best for her.

2. Bryan Adams – “Please Forgive Me”
But that happens to Bryan Adams this week as he holds onto the number two position for a second week with his highest charting single since 1991.

1. Meat Loaf – “Id’ Do Anything For Love…”
Which means that Meat Loaf is number one for a fourth week running with his best performing single here in the UK so far. Can he make it a fifth, or will Bryan break out, Dina claim her first number one or Culture Beat their second? There’s only one way to find out…
