UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 14th November 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 8th to Saturday 13th November 1993.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were twelve new entrys, five climbers and four non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. Paul Weller – “The Weaver”
Having been a new entry this time last week, Paul Weller drops heavily, down twenty two places with the latest single from his album “Wild Wood”.

39. Barry Manilow – “Could It Be Magic? ’93”
Barry Manilow is back with another old tune, remixed for 1993. This one was originally released in 1973 but didn’t chart until 1975.

38. M People – “Moving On Up”
M People are moving on out, to make way for their next single, which is out very soon. This one has been around for nine weeks now and is down fifteen places.

37. Cyndi Lauper – “That’s What I Think”
And also going down is the brand new single from Cyndi Lauper, which was new on last week and drops down six places in its second.

36. Eternal – “Stay”
It doesn’t look like Eternal will stay much longer with their debut single. Eight weeks for them and they are down fifteen.

35. Guru featuring Dee C Lee – “No Time To Play”
Also falling is the new entry from Guru and 80’s singer Dee C Lee as they slide ten in their second week.

34. Bjork and David Arnold – “Play Dead”
With five weeks on the chart now, Bjork and David Arnold depart the top twenty, down fourteen places with their contribution to the film ‘Young Americans’.

33. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “Boom Shake The Room”
With eleven weeks on the former number one from DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince is also down fourteen places and out.

32. Whitney Houston – “Queen Of The Night”
While Whitney Houston slides sixteen with the latest release from her hugely successful film, ‘The Bodyguard’.

31. The Shamen – “Comin’ On”
Whitney has three weeks and so do The Shamen as they too depart the top twenty, down fifteen for them with the “SOS” EP.

30. Wet Wet Wet – “Shed A Tear”
Shed a tear for Wet Wet Wet as their brand new single falls eight places in their third week on the chart.

29. House Of Virginism – “I’ll Be There For You”
We welcome the House Of Virginism to the top 40 this week. This is the debut single under that name for DJ and producer Fredrik Apollo Asplund aka Apollo.

28. Aerosmith – “Cryin'”
Having been a former highest climber, Aerosmith drop out of the top twenty this week, down eleven places.

27. Crowded House – “Nails In My Feet”
Back with the follow up to “Distant Sun” are Crowded House with this new entry, which is the second to come from their new album, “Together Alone”.

26. Heart – “Will You Be There In The Morning?”
We welcome American band Heart back to the UK top 40 this week with a brand new single, their first to chart here since “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You” back in 1990.

25. James – “Laid”
Bucking the trend, James’ new entry from last week goes up as they find themselves four places higher than where they came in.

24. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “I’m Looking For The One To Be With Me”
…and DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince’s former chart topper moves over for this follow up and new entry giving the duo two UK top 40 singles!

23. Captain Hollywood Project – “More And More”
One of last week’s joint highest climbers was this 1992 song from Captain Hollywood and he continues to progress up three this week.

22. Terence Trent D’Arby – “Let Her Down Easy”
It’s been a great comeback year for Terence Trent D’Arby with his album and three UK top twenty hit singles. Can number four make it a fourth…?

21. Sting – “Demolition Man”
Sting is just above him with this new entry and the title song from a new Sylvester Stallone film, which was originally recorded by Grace Jones in February 1981 and then by The Police eight months later!

20. Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson – “Ave Maria”
Opera stars Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson enjoy a great second week as their version of this ancient song climbs fourteen places to be the highest of them all.

19. Leftfield Lydon – “Open Up”
Not so good for Leftfield and Johnny Lydon as their debut from last week falls six places a week later.

18. Frankie Goes To Hollywood – “Welcome To The Pleasuredome ’93”
Frankie Goes To Hollywood are back with a second remix of an old hit. This one made No.2 in 1985 and was the title track of their debut album.

17. 2 Unlimited – “Maximum Overdrive”
Ray and Anita started the year on top with “No Limit”, so can they finish the year at number one? We shall see with this new entry…

16. Michael Bolton – “Said I Loved You But I Lied”
Lying has done nothing for Michael Bolton in his second week as his brand new single drops down one place from where it came in.

15. Pauline Henry – “Feel Like Making Love”
While the other of last week’s joint highest climbers from Pauline Henry sinks three places as she doesn’t feel like making love anymore.

14. The Time Frequency – “Real Love ’93”
Real love comes from The Time Frequency and it finally gave them a top ten hit for the first time. But one week was all as they go down six places.

13. The Orb – “Little Fluffy Clouds”
The Orb hold one of many chart returners and this 1990 original was new in the top ten last week but falls three in its second.

12. Janet Jackson – “Again”
Janet Jackson comes back with a ballad as the third single from her latest album and a new entry that also makes it her second highest charting.

11. Mariah Carey – “Hero”
Fellow American Mariah Carey just drops out of the big ten this week, down four with the second hit to come from her current album.

10. Goodmen – “Give It Up”
The 1993 top 40 return of Goodmen’s 1993 single “Give It Up” starts the top ten, down four having dropped out of the top five last week.

9. Guns’N’Roses – “Ain’t It Fun”
Guns’N’Roses storm back to the UK top ten with a big new entry this week and it’s the lead single from their upcoming fifth album which is due out in two weeks time.

8. Elton John and Kiki Dee – “True Love”
Just above the is this week’s highest new entry and it’s a return of former chart toppers Elton John and Kiki Dee, who reunite seventeen years after they reached number one with “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart“!

7. Soul Asylum – “Runaway Train”
Another of 1993’s re-issues doing much better second time around comes from Soul Asylum as they make their UK top ten debut with a climb of four places.

6. Cappella – “U Got 2 Let The Music”
Cappella are down just one this week and out of the top five, five weeks after joining the chart with their biggest hit yet.

5. Urban Cookie Collective – “Feels Like Heaven”
Going up four is last weeks highest new entry from the Urban Cookie Collective as they aim to make their way to the top.

4. Culture Beat – “Got To Get It”
Not getting to the top this week are Culture Beat as they hold onto the same position they ascended to a week ago.

3. Dina Carroll – “Don’t Be A Stranger”
And that goes for Dina Carroll as she went up after a being a non-mover to be that just once more one place higher.

2. Bryan Adams – “Please Forgive Me”
Holding on to second place for a third week is Bryan Adams with the first new song to come from his new best of album, “So Far, So Good”.

1. Meat Loaf – “I’d Do Anything For Love…”
Not doing anything in terms of budging from the top is Meat Loaf, who claims a fifth week as the biggest seller of all in the UK. Can he go a sixth, or will anyone below him break out or be overtaken by the Urban Cookie Collective? There’s only one way to find out…
