Following on from earlier new versions of “Cruel Summer” and “Venus” this year, Bananarama have released a brand new version of another of their earlier hits, “Robert De Niro’s Waiting”, which is also accompanied with a new mix of “Velvet Lies” from their most recent album, “Masquerade“.
The track has been remixed by French DJ and producer Nicolas Laugier aka The Reflex, who has previously worked with Paul Weller, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, while “Velvet Lies” has been reworked by Australian producer and musician Luke Million, who has worked with Sam Sparro, as well as releasing his own material since 2010. Both will feature on Bananarama’s new best of collection, “Glorious”, which is released in March 2024 and will see Sara and Keren take to the road for their biggest greatest hits tour ever.
“Robert De Niro’s Waiting” was released in January 1984 and was the second single to come from their second, self-titled studio album. It became one of their biggest hits ever when it peaked at No.3 in the UK and was a top twenty hit across the world, only making No.95 in America, home of the man who they celebrate. At least he was grateful!
