UK Top 40 Singles Chart for 15th December 1985

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Richard Skinner broadcast from 5pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week there were three new entrys, sixteen climbers and three non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. Nik Kershaw – “When A Heart Beats”
Nik Kershaw’s heart beats for another week in the top 40 but only just as his new single falls ten places.

39. Black Lace – “The Hokey Cokey”
It’s been over a year, but Black Lace are back in the top 40 with their version of this traditional dance that originates from 1826!

38. Queen – “One Vision”
Meanwhile, Queen go down thirteen with their brand new recording as the band continue to work on their next album.

37. Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin – “Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves”
Doing it for themselves for an eighth week in the top 40 are Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin, who all drop eight places.

36. Jennifer Rush – “Ring Of Ice”
Former chart topper Jennifer Rush is back with the follow up to “The Power Of Love” with this new entry and that song is still to come…

35. Artists United Against Apartheid – “Sun City”
The Artists United Against Apartheid go down with the sun, this week thirteen places after five weeks on the chart.

34. a-ha – “Take On Me”
a-ha are gearing up with a new single to follow this one, which has spent three months on the chart and is down eleven this week.

33. Elton John – “Nikita”
Down fifteen for Elton John with this song, which has been around for eleven weeks. Elton is one of many acts with two singles in the top 40 again this week.

32. Sting – “Russians”
Sting comes back with some Russians this time form his debut solo album and it’s also this week’s highest new entry.

31. Dionne Warwick and Friends – “That’s What Friends Are For”
Falling ten places is Dionne Warwick and her friends with this charity number, which has spent seven weeks with us so far.

30. David Grant and Jaki Graham – “Mated”
Having been non-movers just inside the top twenty, David Grant and Jaki Graham go down ten as well with their second collaboration.

29. Princess – “After The Love Has Gone”
Good news for Princess, she was a non-mover last week, but makes a move seven days later and goes up two places.

28. Level 42 – “Leaving Me Now”
With “Something About You” having left us this week, Level 42’s follow up climbs seven places into the top thirty.

27. The Concept – “Mr. DJ”
Another of last week’s new entries came from The Concept and he too is on the up, thirteen places higher in fact.

26. Iron Maiden – “Run To The Hills (Live)”
As do Iron Maiden with the live version of one of their first singles, which goes up seven places, seven days after its arrival.

25. Sophia George – “Girlie Girlie”
Sophia George’s first single to make the UK top 40 enjoys a better week two as she moves up fourteen places.

24. Talking Heads – “Road To Nowhere”
With a tenth week in the top 40, Talking Heads continue their journey back on the road to nowhere and down nine places.

23. Elton John – “Wrap Her Up”
Here comes Elton again with his new entry from last week which is up eleven places. The track also comes from his album “Ice On Fire”.

22. Cameo – “She’s Strange”
Still improving on this previously released single are Cameo, this week they are up two, now fifteen places higher than it reached first time.

21. Jennifer Rush – “The Power Of Love”
And here comes Jennifer again with single number two, the former number one, which actually goes back up the chart, six places higher than it dropped to last week!

20. UB40 – “Don’t Break My Heart”
UB40 go down eight this week with the follow up to their chart topper with Chrissie Hynde earlier this year.

19. Amazulu – “Don’t You Just Know It”
Meanwhile for Amazulu it’s nothing at all as they stick to the same position they moved into this time last week.

18. Doug E Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew – “The Show”
Doug E Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew put on another show for another week in the UK top twenty, this time down seven places.

17. Bronski Beat – “Hit That Perfect Beat”
Bronski Beat prove their beat is perfect as they return to the top twenty for the second time this year with a climb of nine.

16. Paul McCartney – “Spies Like Us”
Holding on to the place he rose to this time last week is former Beatle Paul McCartney with the title song from the film that stars Dan Ackroyd and Chevy Chase.

15. Go West – “Don’t Look Down”
Go West may sing about not looking down but their latest goes down two places having been a non-mover on last weeks chart.

14. Aled Jones – “Walking In The Air”
Choir boy Aled Jones brought his version of this song from ‘The Snowman’ to the chart last week and with a climb of twenty three places, he is the highest of all a week later!

13. Feargal Sharkey – “A Good Heart”
Former chart topper Feargal Sharkey drops out of the top ten and down six places with his biggest solo hit to date.

12. Starship – “We Built This City”
While Starship are climbing ever higher with this track, which is up two after a month in the UK top 40.

11. Lionel Richie – “Say You, Say Me”
Sadly for Lionel Richie, that’s it for now with his latest and newest song, which departs the UK top ten and goes down three places.

10. Wham – “Last Christmas”
Aiming for the top this year are Wham with the first of their two singles on the chart, this re-release, which powers up twenty two places. But can they make it this time next week…?

9. Bruce Springsteen – “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”
Also eyeing up the top spot on next weeks chart is Bruce Springsteen. His highest new entry from last week moves into the top ten with a climb of eight places.

8. Madonna – “Dress You Up”
Madonna may dress up for Christmas but it won’t be as the number one as her latest drops down three places.

7. Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin – “Separate Lives”
And neither will Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin be looking to share separate lives at number one as they too go down three.

6. Dee C Lee – “See The Day”
Dee C Lee has been at number three for the past two weeks, but is so no longer as she goes down three places.

5. Pet Shop Boys – “West End Girls”
Making their top five debut are the Pet Shop Boys with their first top 40 charting single, which climbs four places.

4. Wham – “I’m Your Man”
Here come Andrew and George again with their former number one, which is down two places, but which of their two singles will be higher this time next week?

3. Band Aid – “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”
Going up three this week is last year’s Christmas number one from all the Band Aid stars. Can they do it again two years in a row…?

2. Shakin’ Stevens – “Merry Christmas Everyone”
…or will it be Shakin’ Stevens? Last week’s highest climber shoots into second place with a climb of eight this week.

1. Whitney Houston – “Saving All My Love For You”
Or it could be Whitney Houston, who is number one for a second week here in the UK. She could make it three in a row and remain on top, or it could be Shaky, Band Aid, the Pet Shop Boys, Bruce, Wham or someone else. There is only one way to find out who does…
