Lonnie Gordon

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Beyond Your Wildest Dreams’

The song, “Beyond Your Wildest Dreams”, was originally recorded by Lonnie Gordon in 1990

“Beyond Your Wildest Dreams” was written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman for American singer Lonnie Gordon (b.1965) for her debut album, “If I Have To Stand Alone”. The track was released as the third single in July 1990 and peaked at No.48 in the UK, some way off the song that had took her into the charts earlier that year, “Happenin’ All Over Again”, which was also produced by the same studio.

The track was dusted off again in 1993 for Sybil‘s album “Good And Ready”, which had featured two top five hits from Mike and Pete earlier that year. Her version was released in June that year and followed the second of those top five hits, “When I’m Good And Ready”. But unlike the success of that song, Sybil’s “Beyond Your Wildest Dreams” only reached No.41, seven places higher than Lonnie’s original could achieve.

But which version is the best? LONNIE’s original or SYBIL’s cover?
