UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 6th February 1994

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 31st January to Saturday 5th February 1994.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were twelve new entrys, eight climbers and two non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. Slo-Moshun – “Bells Of New York”
Slo-Moshun made their debut on the chart last week but seven days later and they are too slo to make good of it as the song drops eleven places.

39. Snoop Doggy Dog – “Gin And Juice”
Snoop Doggy Dog is back for a second shot of gin and UK chart action with this follow up to “What’s My Name?”.

38. The Charlatans – “Can’t Get Out Of Bed”
The Charlatans can’t get out of bed and that means their brand new single forfeits and falls fourteen places.

37. Cud – “Neurotica”
We welcome British band Cud back to the top 40 for 1994 with this new entry, their first since “Purple Love Balloon” in the Summer of 1992.

36. Manic Street Preachers – “Life Becoming A Landslide” (EP)
Also back for 1994 are the Manic Street Preachers with this collection of songs that feature on their most recent album, “Gold Against The Soul”.

35. Urban Species – “Spiritual Love”
Tottenham based British group Urban Species make their first steps in the UK chart with this, their debut single.

34. Bees Gees – “For Whom The Bell Tolls”
The bell tolls for perhaps the last time for the Bees Gees, who register three months with this track, which is down eight places.

33. Bitty Mclean – “Here I Stand”
Dropping thirteen is Bitty Mclean with just five weeks to his name this time. His debut album is almost ready for release.

32. Therapy? – “Nowhere”
Therapy? are down eleven with their latest after three weeks on the chart. Their new album is out tomorrow!

31. Bass Bumpers – “The Music’s Got Me”
The Bass Bumpers arrived last week with their music as well, but seven days on and the music is turned down as they go down six places.

30. Garth Brooks – “The Red Strokes”
Garth Brooks’ first UK chart entry for four years slides sixteen places after a month on the chart this time.

29. Captain Hollywood Project – “Impossible”
While the Captain Hollywood Project go up one with their latest offering making it two top thirty hits in three months.

28. Texas – “So In Love With You”
Scottish band Texas get a new entry next, their third in a row from their latest album, “Rick’s Road”, which came out last year.

27. Carleen Anderson – “Nervous Breakdown”
Carleen Anderson made her debut back in 1991 as the singer of the group the Young Disciples, now she’s going it alone and this is her own debut single, who returns her to the UK top 40.

26. Eternal – “Save Our Love”
Week five sees Eternal leave the top twenty with their second release, which is down ten places, having been their second top ten hit.

25. East 17 – “It’s Alright”
Also down ten are East 17 with their biggest hit yet and the boys are already recording some new material for later this year.

24. The Gin Blossoms – “Hey Jealousy”
It’s been a good second week for The Gin Blossoms as their first UK hit single climbs a healthy thirteen places.

23. D-Mob and Cathy Dennis – “Why?”
Back in October 1989, D-Mob and Cathy Dennis got together for “C’mon Get My Love” and now they are back with a new entry, which is D-Mob’s first since 1990 and Cathy’s first since early 1993.

22. Joe Roberts – “Lover”
Joe Roberts continues to go upwards with his first chart hit, which this week is one place higher than it was.

21. Rozalla – “I Love Music”
Rozalla may love music, but her cover of this O’Jays song, which entered the chart last week, goes down three places and out of the upper half of the chart.

20. Elastica – “Line Up”
British group Elastica make their UK chart debut this week and it’s top twenty for them with the release of their second single.

19. Shara Nelson – “Uptight”
While back in the top twenty there’s a new entry for Shara Nelson with the third single from her debut album.

18. The Orb – “Perpetual Dawn”
The Orb go up one place with this re-issue of an earlier single that featured on their first album, “The Orb’s Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld”.

17. Richard Marx – “Now And Forever”
Richard Marx drops four places with his latest. His new album is called “Paid Vacation” and it’s out now.

16. The Cranberries – “Linger”
In a week of firsts, Irish band The Cranberries get a big chart debut here with their second single. The band released their debut album last year and it’s called “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?”.

15. Tori Amos – “Cornflake Girl”
Tori Amos’ new album has just been released and it’s called “Under The Pink”, but that causes the lead single fall nine places.

14. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “Twist And Shout”
She overtakes the former number one from Chaka Demus and Pliers, which is down just three places this week.

13. Culture Beat – “Anything”
Falling out of the top ten this week are Culture Beat, down five in week five with their third hit single.

12. Haddaway – “I Miss You”
And going down two places is Haddaway, who like Culture Beat, has now had three consecutive top ten hits.

11. Red Hot Chilli Peppers – “Give It Away”
Also down two is last week’s highest new entry from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers as the drop out of the top ten.

10. Deep Forest – “Sweet Lullaby”
Producer Deep Forest made his UK chart debut last week and goes up two places into the UK top ten with this relaxing number.

9. Reel 2 Real featuring The Man Stuntman – “I Like To Move It”
Making their UK chart debut in the top ten in week one are American duo Reel 2 Real featuring The Man Stuntman, who’s real name is Mark Quashie.

8. Wendy Moten – “Come In Out Of The Rain”
American singer Wendy Moten comes into the UK top ten this week and with a climb of fourteen places, she is this week’s highest!

7. K7 – “Come Baby Come”
It’s been ten weeks since K7 made his debut here in the UK and he’s still top ten but down two places to leave the top five.

6. Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting – “All For One”
Bryan, Rod and Sting were number three last week but are no longer as they all fall three places, all for one.

5. Aretha Franklin – “A Deeper Love”
It’s been over four years since Aretha Franklin was last in the UK top 40 but she’s back in a big way and she scores the highest new entry this week!

4. Celine Dion – “The Power Of Love”
Meanwhile, last week’s highest climber from Celine Dion goes up three to take her into the top five for the first time with her cover of the Jennifer Rush song.

3. Enigma – “Return To Innocence”
Going up one is Enigma with their first chart hit for four years. The track comes from Michael’s new album called “The Cross Of Changes”.

2. Toni Braxton – “Breathe Again”
It’s no go for Toni Braxton this week as she is a non-mover in the number two slot for a second week with her first chart hit.

1. D:Ream – “Things Can Only Get Better”
Things remain better and best for D:Ream as they clock up a whole month at number one with this thrice released song! Can they go a fifth, or will Enigma, Celine, Aretha or someone else put a stop to that? There’s only one way to find out…
