The Finland song is called “Blackbird” and performed by Norma John.
ARTIST
Norma John are an indie duo consisting of two long time friends – pianist Lasse Piirainen and vocalist Leena Tirronen. Their music has a strong cinematic feel and it oozes harsh Scandinavian beauty.
SONG
The song is called ‘Blackbird’ and is a really simple ballad performed in English and written and composed by the performers. It won the UKM17 contest in Finland on January 28th during a live show beating off 9 other entries from a mixed public and jury vote.

OPINION
It’s a deep ballad that you know has a dark and hidden meaning. The singer, Leena, looks like she has been watching a lot of Adele videos recently and this performance wouldn’t look out of place during an Adele set. As far as ballads go it’s not so bad and to be honest the competition from the other Finland entries wasn’t too hard to beat this year.
PREDICTION
There will be a lot of ballads this year but will this one stand out? I think it will – it’s dark, it’s current and it will qualify and could potentially be in the top half of the left hand side of the leader board.
LYRICS
“Blackbird, blackbird, don’t sing to me
Don’t sing below my window
Fly somewhere else, don’t bother me
Don’t sing below my window
You sang when he was in my bed
You sang when my heart sang
Now you remind me of something I’ll never have
So blackbird, don’t sing
Blackbird, don’t sing
Blackbird, blackbird I am now alone
Somewhere else, go make your home
Don’t nestle here, go find lovers of your own
I am now alone
You sang when he was in my bed
You sang when my heart sang
Now you remind me of something I’ll never have
So blackbird, don’t sing
Blackbird, don’t sing
You sang when he was in my bed
You sang when my heart sang
Now you remind me of something I’ll never have
So blackbird, don’t sing
Blackbird, don’t sing
Blackbird, don’t sing”
