The Denmark song is called ‘Higher Ground‘ and performed by Rasmussen.

ARTIST

Jonas Flodager Rasmussen, known professionally as simply Rasmussen, is a Danish singer and actor. Rasmussen is the lead singer and frontman of the 1980s cover band Hair Metal Heröes, which performs covers of songs by artists such as Elton John, ABBA, and Rugsted & Kreutzfeldt.

He has also worked as a stage actor, performing in stage productions of musicals such as West Side Story, Rent and Les Misérables in Aarhus and Holstebro.

SONG

Rasmussen explains that the song is about trying to solve conflicts by peaceful means and refraining from the use of violence.

“That’s why the song is also about being able to take a step back and solve conflicts in a different way than just thrusting a sword into the belly of someone, you are facing. So, it has a message of peace.”

The song is inspired by the legend of Magnus Erlendsson – a late Viking age chieftain

LIVE PERFORMANCE

OPINION

This is a very theatrical song and will have a performance to match on the big stage. It’s all about the performance as opposed to any backdrops which will be a benefit as there will be no LED screens on the Lisbon stage. Rasmussen delivers the song really well but I can’t help feel that he can give it more OOMPH!

PREDICTION

This will definitely qualify and could end up finishing quite high on the left hand side of the leader board.
