INTERVIEW: Noah Horne

INTERVIEW: Noah Horne

On a mission to make the harp a more respected instrument in pop and contemporary music!

Noah Horne is a London born pop singer and songwriter who’s magical twist is that he plays the harp and mixes it into his music.

Sonically, he’s been influenced by Imogen Heap, Sia, Perfume Genius and Clean Bandit. Melodically and lyrically, inspired by Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga.

He has recently released his latest song ‘Astronaut‘ so have a listen and then hear what he had to say when he talked to us.

TAPM: You are giving us some great new music but who are your musical influences?

NH: Oooh, Imogen Heap, Lana Del Rey, Sia, Perfume Genius, Mika, Lady Gaga, ‘P!nk’ and people with a lot of experience and substance.

My mum has quite an eclectic vinyl music from alternative folk and hip hop from the 1990s and I only found this out about a month ago. We still listen to Rachel Unthank and the Winterset (a Northumbrian folk band) in the car and we just bring it home rehearsing for Wembley you know haha. It was strange because I grew up listening to all the X Factor CDs such as Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke. I mean my Dad’s favourite song was ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua. Despite that, I still ended up wanting to play the harp. Essentially, my dad provided me with the pop chart music and my mum gave me the pop and alternative music giving me my quirky weird kick lol.

TAPM: Awesome! So What was the last song you listened to?

NH: Salvatore’ by Lana Del Rey. I had quite an emotional morning so this song was the perfect soundtrack.

TAPM: Cool – let’s listen…

TAPM: We love ‘Astronaut’ – tell us more about it

NH: ‘Astronaut’ is about having to let go of a toxic person who isolated me, pushing me into oblivion made to feel like a million miles away. The story is told through an Astronaut who I loved who I had to let go as he flew off into outer space and never returned. It’s really sad but perfectly bottled his toxic relationship.

TAPM: Sounds like you flew off just in time. What about Eurovision – would you fly into the contest?

NH: I’ve been encouraged to enter Eurovision by numerous people haha. I’m kinda scared with political tensions and stuff that the UK entries will just be dumped on even more, but Eurovision has always been a bit political. Otherwise, I definitely will consider it if people want me to go for it.

TAPM: We love knowing what the number one song in the charts was when people were born – what was yours?

NH: Not that I googled it lol but Tori Amos – ‘Professional Widow (It’s Got To Be Big)’. Post-millennial baby right here woohoo!

TAPM: Awesome, but now I feel old! Let’s watch…

TAPM: Tell us something embarrassing about yourself…

NH: Oh wow…I guess I’m just an embarrassing person full stop. Costume blips, falling, harp nearly falling over and then actually knocking my harp over omg I can’t.  I’m just very dramatic with my music but my fans love it! Embarrassing things happen all the time, but it’s part of the creative process sweetie darling haha. A glass of Prosecco makes everything better. I like to think I’m quite a good dancer but when you slip over and sprain your foot listening to a mix of your song in the kitchen…it’s not looking great and everyone is a critic now haha.

TAPM: I’m 100% with you on the Prosecco!

TAPM: What’s your favourite song lyric from one of your songs?

NH: Probably from my unreleased song ‘Lift Off’ – ‘I know I hate saying my goodbyes till you drift on past the satellites’

TAPM: Nice! Favourite songs lyric ever?

NH: Everything about Lana Del Rey and the entire song ‘Hide and Seek’ by Imogen Heap, particularly ‘mm whatcha say, that you only meant well, well of course you did’ – best pop lyric and hook ever made.

TAPM: I LOVE that song!

TAPM: Who is the Queen of Pop?

NH: Sia. But I think Imogen Heap secretly influences the pop music industry. She’s inspired so many of us to create beautiful music.

TAPM: Always Madonna! And the King Of Pop?

NH: There are so many!! Brendon Urie though does something for me. Ergh my ovaries. He’s got a story and I like artists who’ve been through a lot to get to where they are now. Substance and experience are invaluable. I do love ‘Queen’ though, their diverse and intelligent song writing really does stand out.

TAPM: Wrong! Always Michael Jackson haha! So, what’s the plan for the remainder of 2019?

NH: Well, one more song will be released this summer!! Can you guess what it is? There are some other cool things all to be announced shortly and I can’t wait to tell y’all. 😉 Otherwise trying to survive and being fabulous sweetie darling.

And we can’t wait!
