EVERY UK NUMBER ONE SONG: ‘Keep On Running’ – The Spencer Davis Group

What was the number one song in the UK on 20th January 1966?

British band, The Spencer Davis Group, were number one with Keep on Running for 1 week.

How many running compilation albums do you think this song has been included on then? I think the answer is probably- all of them. Good for The Spencer Davis Group. However, it was originally a song written and recorded by Jamaican singer-songwriter Jackie Edwards in 1965. It’s a very catchy tune and can understand it’s popularity, but it’s not one of my 60s favourites.

Lyrics

Keep on running, keep on hiding
One fine day I’m gonna be the one
To make you understand
Oh, yeah, I’m gonna be your man.
Keep on running, running from my arms
One fine day I’m gonna be the one
To make you understand
Oh yeah, I’m gonna be your man.
Hey, hey, hey
Everyone is talking about me
It makes me feel so sad.
Hey, hey, hey
Everyone is laughing at me,
It makes me feel so bad,
So keep on running
Keep on running, running from my arms
One fine day I’m gonna be the one
To make you understand
Oh, yeah, I’m gonna be your man
