18-year-old Nigerian/Scottish songwriter Tayo Sound has released the video for the title track of his new EP, “Runaway”.
The video, which features animation and FX by long time collaborators Bedroom, shows a cartoon Tayo searching for The Space Monkey Nova who’s gone looking for his family.
Tayo says of the video: “Nova (the Space Monkey) has been such a big part of this whole EP so the ‘Runaway’ video is a bit of an insight into his story and my way of giving him one final send off. I know I’ll revisit Nova at some point in the future but for the time being, this is the end of our chapter together and his return to his Space Monkey family”.
Alongside the title track, which topped over 220,000 streams in its first week, the EP also features previous tracks “Cold Feet”, “Gone”, “Someone New” and “Heartbreaker”, all of which met critical acclaim and really put Tayo Sound on the map during a year when many new artists have struggled. The EP covers his early experiences with relationships and delves into feelings that everyone can relate to; coupled with his natural songwriting talent it’s an incredible first body of work from a writer so young.
Working with the likes of George Fitzgerald, Courage (Ray BLK, Stormzy), Rob Milton (Easy Life) and George Reid (AlunaGeorge) across the record and following a fantastic sold out live show in October at London’s Jazz Cafe, Tayo has now hit nearly seven million streams combined across all platforms. With more fantastic music to come in 2021, Tayo Sound is only set for big things.
