Tears on my pillow

COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Tears On My Pillow’

The song, “Tears On My Pillow”, was originally recorded by Little Anthony and The Imperials in 1958

Sylvester Bradford (b.1942) and Al Lewis (1901-1967) wrote the sad ode to lost love, “Tears On My Pillow”, as the debut single for the American R&B group Little Anthony and The Imperials. It was released in August 1958 and reached No.4 on the US singles chart, selling over a million copies, and No.2 on the R&B chart, although success was just limited to their home continent initially.

Although recorded since by artists and groups, the best known version has come from Australian singer Kylie Minogue, who recorded it for her second album, “Enjoy Yourself“. The song would later feature on the soundtrack to her movie, ‘The Delinquents’ and was released as a single in January 1990, topping the UK chart and making No.20 in her home country.

But whose version is the best? LITTLE ANTHONY and THE IMPERIALS’ original or KYLIE’s cover?
