COVER vs ORIGINAL: ‘Take A Chance On Me’

The song, “Take A Chance On Me”, was originally recorded by ABBA in 1977

“Take A Chance On Me” – written by ABBA’s Benny Andersson (b.1946) and Björn Ulvaeus (b.1945) – was recorded by the Swedish super group for their fifth studio album “ABBA The Album” in 1977. It was released as the second single in January 1978, topping the UK and Austrian singles charts, while peaking at No.3 in their home country and No.9 in America.

UK synth-pop duo Erasure recorded the song in 1992 for their “ABBA-esque” EP along with three other ABBA classics. The EP became their biggest chart hit in the UK and, to date, their only number one. The EP also topped the Swedish singles chart, beating ABBA’s original and was a top five smash in over twenty other countries, as well as making the US top 200, charting at No.85.

But whose version is the best? ABBA’s original or ERASURE’s cover?
