26 year old singer/songwriter/rapper/comedian Michael Hauri calls himself ‘Yung Gravy’ – he’s a kind of modern day Weird Al Yankovic, he takes well known songs and writes his own lyrics to suit.
Since he started recording in 2016, he’s ‘covered’ “Men In Black”, which he turned into “Forget Me Thots” and Maxine Nightingale’s “Right Back Where We Started From“, which became his own “Gravy Train”.
Yung Gravy has even achieved chart status with some of his recordings, EP’s and three studio albums to date, but his attention has now turned to Rick Astley’s 1987 number one “Never Gonna Give You Up” for his latest tune, which he has recreated as “Betty (Get Money)”, using the familiar sounds of the original song with new lyrics and a cool video to match.
Michael/Yung Gravy takes his music on tour and so far he’s completed seven live sets across America and Europe. You’ve never heard a rapper liken himself to Martha Stewart, boast about partying with his mother, or discuss the latest day trading strategies. Then again, the game has never seen anyone quite like Yung Gravy. The Minnesota-born MC has unassumingly bloomed into a phenomenon with over 1 billion streams, platinum plaques, sold-out tours, and no shortage of style, substance, and swagger! I wonder what Rick thinks of this…
