Nicki French records a whole Eurovision album!
Former UK Eurovision entry Nicki French has just released a full album of Eurovision covers along with her own 2000 tune, “Don’t Play That Song Again”, plus five mixes and extended versions! The album comes off the back of her 2019 EP of Eurovision tracks that also featured her own contribution to the long running music contest that kicked off the 21st century for the UK.
“Eurovision” features Nicki’s own recordings of Bardo‘s “One Step Further” from 1982 to Belle and The Devotions‘ “Love Games” from 1984 and Johnny Logan’s “Hold Me Now” Ireland’s 1987 entry that won that year’s contest. The 17 track album features five extended songs and remixes, two from noted producer Matt Pop, who was also involved with Nicki’s single “On Your Marks, Get Set, Go Away” and her 2018 album, “Glitter To The Neon Lights“.
Nicki first made her mark at the beginning of 1995 when she took her version of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” into the charts around the world. The track was produced by Mike Stock and Matt Aiken of Stock Aitken Waterman fame and went to No.2 in America and No.5 in the UK, shifting over a million copies.
Nicki was back in 2000 when she was selected to sing “Don’t Play That Song Again”, written by John Springate and Gerry Shephard for the UK’s entry into the Eurovision Song Contest. She followed “Say It Again” by Precious but sadly Nicki came 16th on the night in Stockholm, Sweden. The song later made No.34 on the UK top 40.
“Eurovision” is released through Energise Records and is available as a limited edition vinyl and CD album, so get your order in now! The album also features Nicki’s own recording of John Lundvik’s “Too Late For Love”, Sweden’s 2019 entry, “Ding A Dong”, Norway’s 1975 entry from the band Teach-In and Australia’s 2015 entry, “Tonight Again”, originally sung by Guy Sebastian.
Now very much part of Eurovision history and a Eurovision diva herself, this album is essential for all fans of the long-running Pop Contest with new life being injected into some old favourites as well as more recent almost-winning entries, by Nicki. Just make sure you play this album, again!
