UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 3rd October 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 27th September to Saturday 2nd October 1993.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were eight new entrys, one re-entry, eight climbers and two non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. The Spin Doctors – “Jimmy Olsen’s Blues”
The Spin Doctors are back with the follow up to their massive top three hit and this one also comes from their album, “A Pocketful Of Kyrptonite”.

39. Freddie Mercury – “Living On My Own”
Getting an eleventh week in the top 40 is the former number one from Freddie Mercury, who also goes down eleven places.

38. Dannii Minogue – “This Is The Way”
This is definitely not the way Dannii Minogue wants to go as her new entry from last week is falls eleven places in one week.

37. World Party – “All I Gave”
World Party are back with a new entry and the second single from their album “Bang!” to make the top 40, just like “Is It Like Today?” achieved earlier this year.

36. En Vogue – “Runaway Love”
En Vogue are back with a new entry next and their first UK top 40 hit since their hattrick from last year that included their biggest yet, “My Lovin'”.

35. Manic Street Preachers – “Roses In The Hospital”
No roses for the Manic Street Preachers this week as their top twenty new entry and their first this year slides twenty places!

34. Mariah Carey – “Dreamlover”
With two months on the chart this time, Mariah Carey falls ten places with her third single to make the top ten here.

33. Shara Nelson – “One Goodbye In Ten”
While Shara Nelson goes down eight with her latest. Her debut solo album is called “What Silence Knows” and it’s out now.

32. The Wonder Stuff – “On The Ropes” (EP)
The newest material from The Wonder Stuff drops fourteen places and out of the top twenty. The boys have a new album out tomorrow and it’s called “Construction For The Modern Idiot”.

31. Bad Boys Inc. – “Whenever You Need Someone”
Not such a good week either for Bad Boys Inc. as their latest goes down five places after it only joined the chart this time last week.

30. Various Artists – “Two Tone” (EP)”
Our next new entry is a collection of songs from 80’s Ska stars Madness, The Special AKA, The Selecter and The Beat, who join forces for this release on Two Tone Records.

29. Salt’N’Pepa – “Shoop”
Salt’N’Pepa are back with a new entry this week and the first from their next album, the follow up to 1991’s “Blacks’ Magic”, which produced four UK top 40 hit singles.

28. Worlds Apart – “Everlasting Love”
Sadly Worlds Apart version of this song is not everlasting and after one week in the top twenty it goes down eight places.

27. Staxx – “Joy”
Meanwhile, Staxx go up eight places with their debut single, which is also top ten on the Dance chart and Club chart.

26. D:Ream – “Star”
Good news for D:Ream as their new entry from last week climbs thirteen places to take them back into the top thirty for the fourth time!

25. US3 – “Cantaloop”
Not so good for US3 as their highest charting single yet peaks and drops back two places in their third week inside the top 40.

24. Bitty McLean – “It Keeps Raining”
Going down thirteen and out of the top twenty is the debut single from Bitty McLean, from number eleven in his eleventh week.

23. Radiohead – “Creep”
While Radiohead ‘creep’ out of the upper half of the chart and down nine with the re-launch of their debut single from a year ago.

22. Billy Joel – “The River Of Dreams”
Bitty and Billy Joel share the same amount of time on the UK singles chart and like Bitty, Billy leaves the top twenty, down just five places this week.

21. Cypress Hill – “When The Ship Goes Down”
Following their very first top twenty showing here last week with this new entry, Cypress Hill slips two places and out in week two.

20. Diana Ross – “Chain Reaction”
Diana Ross is back in the UK this week and it’s with her number one hit from 1986 as the first release from her upcoming best of album that covers all of her solo career.

19. Crowded House – “Distant Sun”
Also returning to the UK top twenty are Crowded House with their brand new tune, which climbs eleven places in its second week.

18. Bon Jovi – “I Believe”
Bon Jovi are back as well and theirs is a new entry, the fifth single to come from their “Keep The Faith” album, which is now nearly a year old.

17. Belinda Carlisle – “Big Scary Animal”
Belinda Carlisle‘s new album is called “Real” and it’s out now. This is the lead single and it suffers for it and goes down five places.

16. Go West – “Tracks Of My Tears”
Go West’s cover of The Miracles 1965 original puts the song back in the UK top twenty and with a climb of fifteen places, they are this weeks highest!

15. Roxette – “It Must Have Been Love”
Both Go West and Roxette contributed to the soundtrack of the film ‘Pretty Woman’ in 1990, Roxette are back with their song from it but down five places.

14. Paul Young – “Now I Know What Made Otis Blue”
Paul Young was last week’s highest climber and he’s up again, this time seven places to put him back in the top twenty.

13. Stakka Bow – “Here We Go”
Stakka Bow went last week but he does not seven days on as his debut chart hit here in the UK pauses as a non-mover.

12. SWV – “Right Here”
After six weeks in the top tew, SWV depart and fall four places with the remix of their debut single which uses Michael Jackson’s 1983 song “Human Nature” for its backdrop.

11. Gabrielle – “Going Nowhere”
While a fall of two places means that Gabrielle is going nowhere with her new entry from last week and the follow up to her number one!

10. Eternal – “Stay”
Chart newcomers Eternal go top ten in their second week with a climb of six places. Easther and Vernie of the group previously sang backing vocals for Dina Carroll, who has a new single out tomorrow!

9. Culture Beat – “Mr. Vain”
The former chart topper from Culture Beat is down four this week, their tenth week on the UK chart and their eighth week in the top ten.

8. Meat Loaf – “I Would Do Anything For Love…”
It’s been a long time since we last saw Meat Loaf on the UK top 40 but he’s back and with new material! This is his first since “Rock’N’Roll Mercenaries” with John Parr in 1986 and his first UK top ten hit since “Dead Ringer For Love” in 1981!

7. Pet Shop Boys – “Go West”
With Go West at number sixteen, here is “Go West” the song! The Pet Shop Boys have a new album called “Very” out and the second single from it goes down four places in its fourth week.

6. Haddaway – “Life”
Life gets a little better for Haddaway. He went up one last week and he replicates that again a week later with his second chart hit here.

5. Frankie Goes To Hollywood – “Relax ’93”
Last week’s highest new entry saw this former number one from Frankie Goes To Hollywood make a return in remixed form and like Haddaway, they too go up one this week.

4. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “She Don’t Let Nobody”
Pausing for now are Chaka Demus and Pliers as they get a non-mover for now. They did this before and went up the next week so can they repeat that again…?

3. M People – “Moving On Up”
There is no moving on up any higher for M People as their biggest hit to date drops down one place. The band release their brand new album, “Elegant Slumming”, tomorrow!

2. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “Boom Shake The Room”
Down from the top go DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince with their former two week number one, which drops one place.

1. Take That and Lulu – “Relight My Fire”
So out highest new entry goes straight into the top of the chart and it’s a second time for Take That as they bring Dan Hartman’s 1979 song back and with the added bonus of Lulu as well, making this her very first number one single! But can they keep their fires lit, or will someone put the flames out this time next week? There’s only one way to find out…
