UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 24th October 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 18th to Saturday 23rd October 1993.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there were ten new entry’s, nine climbers and three non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. Sheep On Drugs – “A To H And Back Again”
We kick off with a top 40 debut for British band Sheep On Drugs who finally get their first chart hit having formed back in 1988. Welcome!

39. Texas – “You Owe It All To Me”
Back with a second top 40 hit from their latest album are Texas with this new entry, which follows on from “So Called Friend” just two months ago.

38. The Almighty – “Over The Edge”
Keeping with the Scottish theme, The Almighty get a new entry this week with the follow up to “Addiction” that broke the top 40 earlier this year.

37. Bitty Mclean – “Pass It On”
And back for a second go at a big hit is Bitty Mclean with the follow up to his debut single, which spent three months on the chart.

36. Diana Ross – “Chain Reaction”
Diana Ross has formed a chain reaction for the last three weeks, her former 1986 chart topper has been a non-mover, but week four finds the song sinking sixteen places.

35. SWV – “Right Here”
Ten weeks in and SWV are still about with the remixed version of their single from last year and they are down fourteen places.

34. Right Said Fred – “Bumped”
Not doing very well either are Right Said Fred and their’s was a new entry last week which drops down two places in week two.

33. Aerosmith – “Cryin'”
Back for a second time this year are Aerosmith with this new entry and another track from their current album, “Get A Grip”.

32. Billy Joel – “All About Soul”
The follow up to his top three hit goes up three places for Billy Joel this week. Both songs are from his album, “The River Of Dreams”.

31. Stakka Bow – “Here We Go”
Six weeks on and Stakka Bow is still top 40 with his first chart hit here in the UK and it’s down just three this week.

30. Pet Shop Boys – “Go West”
The Pet Shop Boys cover of this Village People song drops eleven this week, seven weeks after joining the chart and it’s from their very first number one album!

29. Freak Power – “Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out”
Norman Cook aka Freak Power climbs seven places in his second week with his first chart hit since 1990’s “Dub Be Good To Me”.

28. Culture Beat – “Mr. Vain”
The former number one from Culture Beat leaves the top twenty for the first time in three months and falls twelve places.

27. House Of Pain – “Shamrocks And Shenanigans”
While the new entry and double A side from House Of Pain last week falls four places, missing a top twenty placing this time for the group.

26. Oui3 – “For What It’s Worth”
Oui3 returned to the chart last week with this track, two places higher than it got to only a few months ago, but that’s where it stays as a non-mover.

25. INXS – “The Gift”
This song was a new entry for INXS last week but it fares a lot worse as it drops fourteen places just a week later.

24. Gabrielle – “Going Nowhere”
At least Gabrielle is going nowhere, slowly with her latest single. Five weeks in and she just leaves the top twenty, down seven places.

23. Prince – “Peach”
As does Prince, who goes down nine with his latest offering that comes from his latest hits package, “Hits and B Sides”.

22. The Levellers – “This Garden”
The Levellers are back with a new entry and the second single to come from their self-titled third studio album.

21. The Grid – “Texas Cowboys”
Next up is a chart debut for dance act The Grid, coming from the deConstruction label, with their first single to make the top 40.

20. Lena Fiagbe – “Gotta Get It Right”
Lena Fiagbe debuted last week on the chart and a week later she takes her first single into the top twenty, up five places.

19. Frankie Goes To Hollywood – “Relax ’93”
The new remix of Frankie Goes To Hollywood‘s debut number one smash drops six places. Their best of, “Bang The Greatest Hits of Frankie Goes To Hollywood” is out now.

18. Chris Rea – “Julia”
Both Chris Rea and Julia make a top twenty entrance this week as his brand new single climbs six places.

17. The Cat – “Tongue Tied”
And Red Dwarf’s ‘Cat’ aka actor Danny John-Jules goes up one with his very first single! Fun, fun, fun.

16. Tina Turner – “Why Must We Wait Until Tonight?”
Tina Turner is back with a third helping from the soundtrack to her biopic film with this original new song which is written by Bryan Adams, who also had a new single out this week…

15. Lisa Stansfield – “So Natural”
The title of Lisa Stansfield‘s new album is “So Natural” and the title track was new this time last week, but it fails to do any better and is a non-mover.

14. Haddaway – “Life”
Life for Haddaway in week six is leaving the UK top ten, down five places, having peaked at number six.

13. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “She Don’t Let Nobody”
Also out of the top ten are Chaka Demus and Pliers as they go down seven places with the follow up to “Tease Me”.

12. Bjork and David Arnold – “Play Dead”
Bjork got her first top twenty hit here last week with this collaboration with composer David Arnold, but like so many new entry’s last week, she too is a non-mover in week two.

11. M People – “Moving On Up”
Moving on out of the top ten are M People, having been non-movers for the last two weeks, they drop down six places.

10. The Prodigy – “One Love”
We start the top ten with The Prodigy falling two places with their latest, which put them back in the top ten last week.

9. Goodmen – “Give It Up”
The Goodmen returned this song to the top 40 last week and second time around it’s doing much better. A climb of eighteen places makes it this week’s highest!

8. Take That and Lulu – “Relight My Fire”
The former number one from Take That and Lulu drops six this week as the group remain number one on the album chart.

7. Phil Collins – “Both Sides Of The Story”
We welcome Phil Collins back to the chart this week with new music and a big new entry for him with the first cut from his upcoming album, his first since 1989’s “…but Seriously”.

6. Eternal – “Stay”
Meanwhile, week five finds Eternal with no staying power as their debut single drops back two places and out of the top five.

5. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “Boom Shake The Room”
Just above them is the former number one from DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, which falls two, having been a non-mover this time last week.

4. Dina Carroll – “Don’t Be A Stranger”
Last week, Dina Carroll bagged her very first top ten hit with this song, which was also the highest climber, now she betters that going up six and into the top five!

3. Bryan Adams – “Please Forgive Me”
Bryan Adams is back and this time it’s his own recording as he lands this week’s highest new entry with a new track that will feature on his upcoming greatest hits album.

2. Cappella – “U Got 2 Let The Music”
While last week’s highest new entry from Cappella goes up five to give the producers their highest charting single yet.

1. Meat Loaf – “I’d Do Anything For Love…”
So that means that Meat Loaf is the biggest seller of all for a second week running with his very first UK chart topper. But can he make it three in a row, or will Cappella, Bryan Adams, Dina Carroll or someone else put an end to that? There’s only one way to find out…
