UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 28th November 1993
So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 22nd to Saturday 27th November 1993.
This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases. This week, thirty years ago, there were eleven new entrys, four climbers and three non-movers! And it was announced like this…
40. Crowded House – “Nails In My Feet” The latest from Crowded House was top thirty last week but now they fall at your feet, down eighteen places.
39. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince – “I’m Looking For The One To Be With Me” Looking much lower for the one to be with are DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince as they slide twelve places.
38. Luther Vandross – “Love Is On The Way” Our first new entry comes from Luther Vandross with another track from his album “Never Let Me Go”, which is the follow up to “Heaven Knows”.
37. The Time Frequency – “Real Love” Time is running out once more for The Time Frequency as they go down thirteen places having spent five weeks on the chart this time.
36. Mary J Blige – “You Don’t Have To Worry” Mary J Blige is back for another stab at a UK chart hit and this one follow up on her top thirty single “Real Love”, both the same as the song mentioned previously!
35. David Bowie – “The Buddha Of Suburbia” David Bowie returns having enjoyed success with his album “Black Tie, White Noise” this time with the title song of a new TV series that is airing on BBC2.
34. The Wonder Stuff – “Full Of Life” The Wonder Stuff turned up last week with this new collection but seven days on and the life ebbs away as they fall six places.
33. Sting – “Demolition Man” Sting lives to see a third week with the title song from the film starring Sly Stallone, which this week goes down ten.
32. Kate Bush – “Moments Of Pleasure” While Kate Bush sinks six places with her new entry from last week, the second single to come from her album “The Red Shoes”.
31. Michael Bolton – “Said I Loved You But I Lied” Michael Bolton is down ten in his fourth week with this song, the first from his brand new album, “The One Thing”.
30. Naughty By Nature – “Hip Hop Hooray” Naughty By Nature scored their biggest UK single yet last week with this re-issue, but also fall ten places a week later.
29. Messiah – “Thunderdome” Going the other way are Swiss rockers Messiah as their new entry from last week climbs eight places and into the top thirty.
28. Pauline Henry – “Feel Like Making Love” Pauline Henry has enjoyed a hit on her own with this cover of the Bad Company song from 1975. But five weeks on she is down eleven places.
27. Belinda Carlisle – “Lay Down Your Arms” Belinda Carlisle has a cover song in the charts and she goes up six places with it. This is now her eleventh UK top thirty single.
26. Heart – “Will You Be There In The Morning?” It seems we won’t all be there in the morning for Heart as their top twenty comeback of last week falls seven places.
25. Sagat – “Funk Dat” Faustin Maxim Moran Lenon goes by the name of Sagat and he gets his first UK top 40 single this week with what is also his debut single.
24. Cappella – “U Got 2 Let The Music” Cappella leave the top twenty as they fall twelve with their second top ten hit and the highest charting of them both.
23. 2 Unlimited – “Maximum Overdrive” It seems that Ray and Anita are not on maximum overdrive with this one as their latest becomes their second single to miss the UK top ten and goes down eight places.
22. Goodmen – “Give It Up” The Goodmen are down eleven this week with the relaunch of their earlier top thirty single, which has now spent four months on the UK singles chart.
21. Terence Trent D’Arby – “Let Her Down Easy” One week was all Terence Trent D’Arby needed with his fourth top twenty hit of 1993. Let him down easy as he goes down three.
20. Snoop Doggy Dog – “What’s My Name?” American rapper Snoop Doggy Dog makes a big start with his debut single this week, which debuts in the UK top twenty!
19. East 17 – “It’s Alright” Back in the top twenty are East 17 this week with a new entry. This is the sixth to come from their debut album, “Walthamstow”, which was released at the beginning of this year.
18. Culture Beat – “Got To Get It” Culture Beat drop thirteen places this week and out of the top five with the follow up to one of the year’s biggest sellers.
17. Bjork – “Big Time Sensuality” Bjork enjoyed her first top twenty hit here only a few weeks ago with “Play Dead” and she comes back with another single from her debut album, this time on her own.
16. Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson – “Ave Maria” Opera singers Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson pause for a moment as their first chart hit is a non-mover.
15. Mariah Carey – “Hero” Mariah Carey returned to the top ten last week after one week out and drops out again, this time down six places.
14. K-Klass – “Let Me Show You” While K-Klass returned to the chart with new music. This single made a good debut, but a week later, it drops down one place.
13. Bees Gees – “For Whom The Bell Tolls” The follow up to the Bees Gees last single does much better and with a whopping climb of twenty five places, is this week’s highest!
12. The Village People – “YMCA ’93” In the spirit of so many remixes that have materialised this year, The Village People make a return with a new mix of perhaps their best known song, which was a number one here in 1978.
11. Urban Cookie Collective – “Feels Like Heaven” Just dropping out of the top ten this week are the Urban Cookie Collective as their second single goes down three places.
10. Soul Asylum – “Runaway Train” Soul Asylum kick off the top ten this week, but down three places with the re-issue of an earlier single this year.
9. M People – “Don’t Look Any Further” Getting their fourth top ten hit this year are M People as they get a big new entry, this time with a cover of a Dennis Edwards song from 1984.
8. Janet Jackson – “Again” The latest from Janet Jackson falls two this week. Janet’s brother Michael duetted with Siedah Garrett on his chart topper in 1987, Siedah also duetted with Dennis on the original of the song at No.9.
7. The Doobie Brothers – “Long Train Running ’93” The 1990 remix of The Doobie Brothers hit was last week’s highest new entry and they go up three in week two.
6. U2 – “Stay (Faraway, So Close)” U2 are back in the charts with this new entry, their first for over a year and this song comes from a new film ‘Faraway, So Close’. It’s also the first single to chart top 40 from their new album that came out this Summer!
5. Dina Carroll – “Don’t Be A Stranger” Dina Carroll is down another one place this week with her biggest single from her best selling album, “So Close”, and Dina has a brand new single out tomorrow!
4. Bryan Adams – “Please Forgive Me” Also down one yet again is Bryan Adams with the new song from his chart topping greatest hits album, “So Far, So Good”.
3. Mr. Blobby – “Mr. Blobby” You’ve seen Noel’s House Party and now you’ve gone and bought the single! Yes, it’s the pink thing in the rubber suit that gets this week’s highest new entry!
2. Elton John and Kiki Dee – “True Love” Meanwhile, Elton John and Kiki Dee have to make do with a second week at number two with their second recording together.
1. Meat Loaf – “I’d Do Anything For Love…” Which means for a seventh week, Meat Loaf stays at number one with the longest reigning number one since Whitney Houston at the beginning of the year. Can he go to an eighth, or will Mr. Blobby, Elton and Kiki or someone else put an end to his reign? There’s only one way to find out…
