UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 12th December 1993
So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 6th to Saturday 11th December 1993.
This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases. This week, thirty years ago, there were eleven new entrys, two re-entry’s, six climbers and two non-movers! And it was announced like this…
40. EYC – “Feelin’ Alright” East 17 are currently declaring that it’s alright but we have a new American group who are feelin’ alright with this, their UK top 40 debut!
39. Snoop Doggy Dogg – “What’s My Name? Snoop Doggy Dogg had his debut three weeks go and his first UK chart hit falls seventeen in week three.
38. K-Klass – “Let Me Show You” K-Klass are down eighteen places with their brand new tune after four weeks on the chart. This is their fourth to have made the top 40.
37. K7 – “Come Baby Come” Our second new entry this week is another debut for American rapper Louis Sharpe aka K7 as his very first single debuts on our chart.
36. Gabrielle – “I Wish” Gabrielle is down ten places with her new entry from last week, which becomes her first not to make the top twenty.
35. Michael Jackson – “Gone Too Soon” Michael Jackson gets a new entry with the NINTH single to come from his 1991 album “Dangerous”, but this is the lowest of the lot…so far.
34. Haddaway – “I Miss You” Haddaway has achieved two top ten hits this year and now he comes in with this new entry, but will it be his third…?
33. Soul Asylum – “Runaway Train” Down fourteen this week are Soul Asylum with their re-released single, which has spent three times longer in the top 40 than it did before.
32. Nirvana – “All Apologies” Nirvana are back with this new entry, which is the second track to come from their latest album, “In Utero”.
31. UB40 – “Bring Me Your Cup” While down seven go UB40 with another of last week’s new entries that does much worse than it did seven days earlier.
30. Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson – “Ave Maria” Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson go down seven places with their version of this old Opera classic that was composed by Franz Schubert.
29. Diana Ross – “Your Love” Having re-released “Chain Reaction” a few months ago, Diana Ross is back with a brand new song from her “One Woman: The Ultimate Collection” greatest hits album.
28. Bad Boys Inc. – “Walking On Air” Bad Boys Inc. walk on air, but only just a little bit more as they go up one with their third top 40 charting single of this year.
27. Cliff Richard – “Healing Love” Cliff Richard always releases a song at Christmas and here’s his bid for the top this year, but has he left it a little too late with this new entry?
26. Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle – “A Whole New World” The new song from the Disney film ‘Aladdin‘ is this week’s highest climber of five places as Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle move into the top thirty.
25. The Village People – “YMCA ’93” Down twelve go The Village People with the 1993 remix of their former number one smash of the late 70’s.
24. Ice-T – “That’s How I’m Livin'” American rapper Ice-T arrives on the UK top 40 this week with his very first hit here, having released his debut single back in 1983. This is a track from his fifth studio album.
23. Bjork – “Big Time Sensuality” Bjork is down just two places this week with the fourth single to come from her debut album, which was released earlier this year.
22. New Order – “Spooky” New Order have released this song as the fourth from their album of this year, called “Republic” and it gives them a fourth top thirty entry.
21. Cypress Hill – “I Ain’t Going Out Like That” Cypress Hill are going down like that as their highest charting single here in the UK so far, goes down sex places.
20. The Doobie Brothers – “Long Train Running ’93” The Doobie Brothers fall eight this week with the remix of their former top ten hit from the 1970’s, which has returned for the second time this decade in some form.
19. Blind Melon – “No Rain” And it’s down two places for last week’s chart debuters Blind Melon with their very first UK charting single.
18. Mariah Carey – “Hero” The latest single from Mariah Carey is sticking around and week seven finds her a non-mover inside the top twenty.
17. Prince – “Controversey” While last week’s highest new entry from Prince tumbles out of the top five and down twelve places in week two!
16. Janet Jackson – “Again” Also leaving the top ten but down just six is Janet Jackson with her latest. The song is currently number one in America.
15. Frankie Goes To Hollywood – “The Power Of Love” Frankie Goes To Hollywood are back with a third re-release of an earlier single and this is their third chart topper from December 1984 that returns.
14. U2 – “Stay (Faraway, So Close)” U2 slide ten places this week with their new single, out of the top five and also the top ten in week three.
13. Pet Shop Boys – “I Wouldn’t Normally Do This Kind of Thing” The Pet Shop Boys go up three with the third single to come from their latest album, which became their first chart topper back in September.
12. M People – “Don’t Look Any Further” Slipping just one are M People with their cover of the Dennis Edwards/Siedah Garrett recording from 1984.
11. Meat Loaf – “Bat Out Of Hell” Former chart topper Meat Loaf returns but not with a follow up, a re-release of the title track of his 1977 album, which originally peaked at No.15 when it was released in 1979!
10. Dina Carroll – “The Perfect Year” 1993 really has been a perfect year for Dina Carroll and to add to her success, she’s back in the top ten with her latest single, which goes up four places.
9. Bryan Adams – “Please Forgive Me” Bryan Adams goes down two this week with the brand new song that comes from his current greatest hits packaged, “So Far, So Good”.
8. Dina Carroll – “Don’t Be A Stranger” Still sticking together though are Bryan and Dina, although she is a non-mover this week, her tenth on the chart with her biggest seller, so far…
7. East 17 – “It’s Alright” Going up two is the highest climber from last week from East 17 as the boys enjoy their third top ten hit.
6. Elton John and Kiki Dee – “True Love” Falling three from number three are Elton John and Kiki Dee with their version of the Cole Porter song from 1956, originally recorded by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly.
5. Bee Gees – “For Whom The Bell Tolls” Still climbing are the Bee Gees with their best seller for over two and a half years. This week they go up one and into the top five.
4. Chaka Demus and Pliers – “Twist And Shout” Here comes another old song that’s been done many times already, this time Chaka Demus and Pliers lend their interpretation to it and get a big new entry.
3. Meat Loaf – “I’d Do Anything For Love…” Here comes Meat Loaf again, along with Dina Carroll, he also has two songs on the chart and this, his former number one, is down one.
2. Mr. Blobby – “Mr. Blobby” Also down one is last week’s number one from Mr. Blobby! After just one week on top, he makes way for someone else…
1. Take That – “Babe” …the highest new entry, which goes straight in to the top and it’s three in a row for Take That as they are Britain’s new number one! But can they keep it for the Christmas chart next week. There is only one way to find out…
