CHARTS: UK Top 40 Singles Chart 26th December 1993

UK Top 40 Singles Chart for Sunday 26th December 1993

So this was the chart that Radio 1 DJ Bruno Brookes broadcast from 4pm-7pm with data from the GALLUP computer based on record sales from Monday 20th to Friday 24th December.

This is how the charts USED to look with new entries, climbers and non-movers, all based solely on record purchases.
This week, thirty years ago, there was one new entrys, one re-entry, eleven climbers and sixteen non-movers! And it was announced like this…

40. Culture Beat – “Got To Get It”
We welcome back Culture Beat to the top 40 after two weeks away with this song, which is a re-entry and one of only two to join the chart this week.

39. UB40 – “Bring Me Your Cup”
There are an extraordinary number of non-movers, as you might expect, this week and the first comes from UB40.

38. Snoop Doggy Dog – “What’s My Name?”
Snoop Doggy Dog, on the other hand, does move, but it’s down three places with his very first UK chart hit.

37. Saint Etienne – “I Was Born On Christmas Day”
Another non-mover is the Christmas song from Saint Etienne, which fails to do anything at all in Christmas week!

Going nowhere are Nirvana as they remain in the same spot they descended to this time last week. The group now have two full years of UK top 40 charting singles.

35. The Village People – “YMCA ’93”
It must be fun to stay at the YMCA at Christmas as The Village People go back up the chart, three places higher than they were.

While Bjork sticks around for a second week in the same position with her third solo single and fourth overall this year.

Falling two places are Lesley Garrett and Amanda Thompson as they drop out of the top thirty with this song that’s now been around for two months.

Cypress Hill sure are going out like that and also out of the top thirty with this one, which is down three.

U2 go down five this week with this track, which also features a new recording of “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” with Frank Sinatra!

21. Cliff Richard – “Healing Love”
No healing love for Cliff Richard this Christmas as his seasonal release drops out of the upper half of the chart, down two places!

No change this week for Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle with their tune from the new ‘Aladdin’ film, which holds tight.

A string of non-movers now starts with East 17, who made the top five for the second time this year seven days ago.

4. Bee Gees – “For Whom The Bell Tolls”
And that goes for the Bee Gees, who get a second week in the same place with this number which is only their second of the 1990’s to make the top ten.

Chaka Demus and Pliers‘ version of this old and much-covered song is also a non-mover. The duo have yet to go any higher than third place.

And the Christmas number two song remains number two for the new year as Take That‘s third chart topper of 1993 stays the same.

1. Mr. Blobby – “Mr. Blobby”
Which means the Christmas number one is number one for a third, but not consecutive, week on top. Will he be there in 1994, or will someone else begin the new year with a new number one? There’s only one way to find out…
