Pete Waterman is known for having an keen eye as a hitmaker, he proved it with Rick Astley and Kylie and 25 years ago, he did it again with Steps. Their debut single “5-6-7-8” launched the five collective into pop heaven and since then they’ve churned out dozens of instantly recognisable hits.
All of them are to be included on a brand new best of album, “The Platinum Collection”, coming out, the group’s third official greatest hits album since their first, “Gold”, in 2001. From that album, Steps have released a brand new track, “Hard 2 Forget”, a rather infectious slice of retro dance-pop that harks back to early years of this century but with a coolness and a freshness that brings it bang up-to-date for the groups silver jubilee in the music industry.
Since “5-6-7-8”, Steps have achieved a total of 14 consecutive UK top ten hits including the double A sided number one of the Bee Gees “Tragedy” and the original number, “Heartbeat”. Other highlights of “The Platinum Collection” include “Love’s Got A Hold On My Heart”, “After The Love Has Gone” as well as covers of songs by Bananarama, Kylie and Diana Ross.
“The Platinum Collection” is released on 19th August on Sony Records
